We made a reservation two days ahead. The only problem is that our portable computer does not have a printer and we do not have a modern cell phone. We did finally get a print out of our reservation. The ship was full of vehicles but there was lots of comfortable room for passengers.

The Ferry was clean and on time the staff was friendly and knowledgeable the only issue is the price when gas prices went up to over $4 the ferries raised there prices accordingly now that gas prices are under $2.50 the ferries haven't lowered there prices That is a big problem.

On my once or twice a year visits to the East Coast, I'll head down to Long Island from Boston or RI to visit relatives. I've learned that the easiest and most attractive way to do it is to take the Cross Sound Ferry from New London to Point Orient, a crossing that takes a little less than an hour... More

Growing up on the east end of Long Island, but living away as an adult has left me needing to visit from time to time. It wouldn't be a real trip to the place of my birth without riding the ferry from New London to Orient. It makes both the arriving and the leaving of the island a piece of... More

The Cross Sound Ferry runs a couple of lighthouse tours. We took the classic tour, which includes nine houses which run the gamut from the iconic tall structures, to masonry house types to the squat "spark plug" variety. On the tour we also saw denizens of the deep - dolphins, seals and a nuclear sub on its way home to... More

This is a well-organized, smooth-running operation and gets you across Long Island Sound in about 80 minutes. Their website explains the process clearly, and the reservation process is simple. First-timers may want to choose the larger vessels; the small ones like Susan Lane can require driving up and down ramps, and will pitch more if the seas are up. Compared... More
