Enjoyed learning about the History of Sing Sing and Ossining ! Very informative! I recommend this small and free neighborhood Museum !

For a history nut like me, this place was great. Sing Sing just Emulates prison history and I loved it. You must come here, It was well with the time. I got thru in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Great!

I am fascinated yet scared of prisons so it is very cool seeing old Sing Sing up close and personal. It's not a very large place so you can see it in under an hour and it is worth the visit.

While passing through Ossining, I recalled hearing about a museum about the infamous penitentiary. We made a few inquiries and found it at the Caputo Community Center. It is just a room with a few nice story boards and very few artifacts. There was no one present to answer any questions the day we visited. There's a board with weapons made by convicts, a replica of "Old Sparky", the electric chair and a couple of cells. You can go into one of them and slam the door shut and take a photo to use as your Christmas card. This isn't an attraction I would go out of my place to visit but if you're in the area, perhaps waiting to visit a friend or loved one who was sent up the river, you can come in and read all about it.
There is also some information about the Old Croton Aqueduct which runs through Ossining on its way to New York City. Back in the day, it was discovered that for New York to grow, a supply of fresh drinking water had to be brought in from reservoirs up state. An artificial lake was created in Croton and aqueducts were constructed along the 40 mile route to carry the precious liquid. in fact, some of the aqueducts are still there for you to see, not far from the museum.

Drove past the museum initially. It is located in a community center so in my mind I had to have been in the wrong place. Once we got inside we had a fun time. The displays were informative and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed being able to get into a cell, mostly because I could leave on my time frame as opposed to the state's. The cost of admission, free, makes this a no brainer if you are in the area.

A small but interesting museum of Sing Sing prison, located in the Ossining Recreation Center. Also see the museum of the Croton Aqueduct right next door!

Was looking for something to do on the way home from Irvington and saw this on Tripadvisor. So happy we went! It was REALLY well done, and so interesting. I grew up being awed and intimidated by the thought of Sing Sing Prison and the depictions of the life there by the inmates verify that it was every bit as horrible as I thought, esp. in the 1800's. The replicas of the cells are claustrophobic and the 1820 cell feels like a coffiin! Really scary. The replica electric chair looks so barbaric, hard to believe so many were killed in this manner. The Aqueduct exhibit was very good as well. Will definitely go back

a history & Hudson Valley Region exhibit, self-walk/read, pictures. I work in the Ossining Community Center, where this Exhibit/museum is and many visitors/tourist take in the site. also there is Old Croton Aqueduct info and other Ossining topics. and seasonal Westchester County info on tables/shelf. Free exhibit and parking. & short drive to actual Sing Sing Prison. Was a Jeopardy answer once.

Looks Like A Middle School Student Project.
I think Sing Sing reeks of history, but this is a small show in a cramped space. I had high expectations and went through it in a few minutes. Not really professional. Could use video clips to explore interests of the visitor. Sorry, this could be much better.

This is located in the community centre next to the heritage exhibition about the Croton aqueduct. The history of Sing Sing prison is interesting, if scary due to the subject matter. It wouldn't be suitable for small children, (though the aqueduct side would be), but more for 10+ yrs. If you're in the area it is definitely worth a walk-round.

The big museum they are trying to create doesn’t exist yet. There is a nice small exhibit at the James Capugob Communiry Center. They also have a Croton Aqueduct display. Both worth the visit and free. From the parking lot you can access the Sing Sing Greenway, a lovely path along Sing Sing Creek with great views of the Double Arches.

I have never been to the Prison, I guess I only about it from Hollywood Movies. The most amusing movie association has an opening scene were Edward G. Robinson and another actor are at a baseball diamond discussing the progress of the game. The scene is long enough to establish that this is a baseball game and the men are in informed discussion....but when they turn the backs to the camera Robinson has the words "Sing Sing" on his sweater and the second man has the name of another prison on his. This is not a neighborhood friendly, but a mach behind wall of two big prisons.
