Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We parked by the playground and first took the trail west. This was late March, right after a melt and the paths on this side we nice and dry. The creeks was roaring. The walk along the fishing trail was beautiful. We waked till the underpass and then turned around. This does run close to the highway but the water loud enough to drown it out. Lots of bubbling water, small waterfalls, high cliffs, and some wildlife. Almost no one there that day. There is an alternate gravel trail, but the fishing trail is closer to the water and prettier.

The east trail was also fairly empty but also very sloppy. The boardwalk felt solid, but looked like it was slowly falling. Just past the boardwalk it got very muddy and we turned around. This section also has lots of small falls and is pretty.

Bathrooms were closed in March. Best time to go is anytime, but especially pretty when the leaves are falling.

The Channing H. Philbrick Park is a wonderful park because it gives you the feeling that you really are "back in the woods." The hike alongside the stream is flanked by steep hills on either side, and traverses flower-filled fields and wooden walkways over water. You get a sense of beauty and solitude, even though you are really in the town of Penfield. It's great for about an hour (or longer if you take any of the side trails). People enjoy fishing here as well. I highly recommend this place, especially if you live in the are but have never visited.

A unique experience at any time of year. Walking up stream or down is a surprising experience. Only in late fall or winter does the sound of Rt.441 intrude. An easy place to stroll and be transported to a peaceful and relaxing place. Alone or encountering fisher folk, dog walkers or the occasional water walkers this is a place to experience nature or be alone with just the restful sound of the creek. Deer are often spotted as are nesting birds in the sand cliff. One warning - do not attempt to climb this cliff - it is easy to get on and have twice witnessed rescue workers needed to help people off this deceptively inviting cliff.

The park is small on the map, but has a very nice trail along Irondequoit Creek where the creeks drops quite a bit over a mile with numerous small waterfalls. The only downside is the number of dog owners who ignore the posted rules... on a leash at all times.. no leash visible... must clean up after them; not carrying a bag, poop every so many feet. Watch your step and it is a beautiful walk. If you aren't a fan of strange dogs running up and jumping up on you while the owner laughs about how friendly it is, try somewhere else.

I think that Penfield should make this park permit only like beach parking on Cape Cod. The way this park is treated by people from the city on the weekends is nothing short of disturbing. They leave trash all over the place. I see where they buy cheap charcoal grills and leave them there still burning hot coals. They throw stuff into the water. It's unbelievable. This could be the best park in town if it wasn't for this. I would still recommend checking it out because it's beautiful but if you go on a warm day on the weekend you're in for a show you'll want to miss.

The old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" couldn't be more true here. This park doesn't appear as though it could be too much inside, and yet the hiking trails will take you to some beautiful spots that have the feel of being in "deep woods." The trail that heads east, toward the middle of Penfield, just doesn't feel as though you are that close to a town. The river that flows along the trail passes by windflowers and birds and fish and small critters that scurry by....it's really a lovely little stroll through the woods. I highly recommend it for a quick get-away in the middle of a busy day. (And if you are a fisherman, don't forget to bring your rod and reel.)

This is another of my favorite places to take my dog. I always feel safe alone, the trails are always clean. Love watching the fishermen (and ladies) you would not believe it from looking at it how far you can walk, the water is so beautiful.

Took the dog and kids along for a nice late day hike. The water level was high and made for a lovely and exhilarating atmosphere. Well worth the trip. There were also many people picnicing along the banks behind the open fields.

There are two sides to this park and be sure to explore both! The water runs through both sides (upper and lower) but the terrain looks so different! I hike there often and also am a photographer of people and bring many clients there. I love this park!

I've been in parts of the Channing Philbrick Park in Penfield, but I'd never taken a walk along the trail that follows the Irondequoit Creek west from the main part of the park. The walk was beautiful, and we got to see places that I hadn't imagined existed inside the limits of Penfield. The stream ran alongside the trail, which crossed over gorgeous foot bridges and would through a scenic forest. It was all amazing...loved it! I highly recommend it for a 1-2 mile hike anytime you are nearby.
