Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Blue Moon Restaurant hostess told us 10 minute wait for table. She asked where we would be waiting and we told her at table outside. I went in after 25 minutes and she never wrote down our name. They seat us and inform us it’s going to be a wait because they just had a large table seated. I got my coffee. They don’t even serve you coffee. You have to get it yourself. They came to get our order for breakfast and said there aren’t anymore pancakes for French toast! After this situation, I was cleaning out my car. I had a cup and soda can. An older woman I formed me as she was walking by that the can was recyclable. I should have asked her if she wanted it but I said thank you and threw it out. I’m traveling!!! She gave me a dirty look. I do not recommend this town for a visit. This community is very rude and apparently does not want guests visiting.

It is a friendly place to visit.
Several small businesses.
Close enough to Lake Placid 😌
Best restaurant if you like home cooked Italian food is the Belvedere at Bloomingdale Ave, Saranac Lake, NY 12983
Its worth the wait. Have drink while waiting.

Visited on a brisk, sunny fall day, deliberately timed to miss the summer crowds. The lake, actually three (upper, middle, and lower), offers top-notch blue-space therapy and a number of convenient access points. The town itself, billed as "The Capital of the Adirondacks," has a pleasingly lived-in, rather than overwhelmingly glitzy-touristy, feel to it. And yet attractive dining and retail options, as well as generous recreational support, abound, along with notable historic architecture. The Adirondacks offer a wide variety of sylvan splendor, to be sure, but if you could only sample one location, you likely could not do better than this for the combination of splendid scenery and convenience.

The best town in the Adirondacks has it all over Lake Placid. Spend a day in the tourist trap of Lake Placid if you must, but be sure to reserve time to stop by the beautiful and laid back town of Saranac Lake. And the lake itself is a marvel, nearly devoid of any shoreline development -- just the water and the surrounding trees and mountains.

Saranac Lake is actually 3 lakes in one, with the Lower Saranac, Middle Saranac and Upper Saranac lakes making up Saranac lake. Much like Lake Placid's situation, the town of Saranac Lake sits mostly on Lake Flower and not Saranac Lake.
Driving on Route 3 towards Tupper Lake you get beautiful views of the Saranac's with the fantastic Adirondack mountain backdrop. The water is pristine and an outdoor paradise. There is little development around the lakes and it is fantastic to drive around them. They also have the Saranac Islands public campground on the northernmost shore. The town of Saranac Lake is also nice with it's quaint downtown along the river and Lake Flower.

Such a quaint area and lake. Beautiful in the early evening. We drove around it and stopped at some of the sites. Loved it.

The scenery around Saranac Lake is fine but the town has no activity and looks deserted. Not a pleasant experience. Lake Placid is a much better choice

More sedate than Lake Placid, there are lakes and hiking trails in all directions. The downtown is cute and struggling. There were some restaurants we wanted to try, but the paired back schedule during Covid 19 meant those at the top of our list were dark. This is a great place for people who hike, canoe, ski and enjoy outdoor sports. For those of us who prefer the indoor activities, a little bland.

We spent the afternoon here passing through to lake placid from tupper lake. The water in the river and the lake is just beautiful. The shops are fun to walk in and out of. Everyone was so nice. What a great stop.
