We were told the train ride would be a 90 minute ride through the Catskills. In reality it’s a slow moving 50 minute round trip ride. Half the ride is looking at parking lots. It was very disappointing.
This is the second time that I have taken a ride on the Catskill Mountain Railroad and I have to say it is quite enjoyable. This is a quaint old railroad that is really trying hard to improve itself despite heavy opposition from the county....More
We went there to do a scenic 90 minute train ride in the Catskill mountains, which is what was advertised. Instead, the train did a very slow 20 minutes ride, half of it through parking lots, the rest in fields, and then turned back. But...More
My wife and I thought it would be fun to take a 'scenic' train ride; what a disappointment. We rode their themed "Peace Train". It was nothing but volunteers with some retro clothing on walking up and down the isles clapping and 'performing' other nondescript...More
This “train ride” takes you approximately 3 miles down a track through the town of Kingston, stops, then goes right back where you came from in reverse. It doesn’t even go up into the Catskill Mountains! We paid $20 apiece for adults for what?!! I...More
I'm late in reviewing this, but I feel compelled before the next fall foliage season begins. My husband and I went up to Hunter, New York to hike and see the fall foliage. It was the perfect time of year in mid October. Interested in...More
this Polar Express ride was fantastic. The crew was very engaging and the children smiled from start to finish as did the adults! I found this trip to be way more festive than the one I took in Saratoga several years ago with my grandson....More

We had an awesome time on the Catskill Mountain Railroad - we rode for the first time on The Polar Express and we were not disappointed! The staff and crew were amazing and this was hands down one of the best Christmas rides we've ever...More
For children, especially my grandchildren, this was the best Santa train ride they had been on and the have been on one every year since they could walk. The crew members entertained the children from start to finish.
For rail buffs, this RR is fighting...More

There's absolutely nothing of interest to view but backyards of abandoned factories, dirt piles, etc. I, too, am a big train fan, but the train is pretty dilapidated & there's no explanation of the train, train history, or its route. You just get on & sit & then the train goes back in the same, straight direction. In my humble opinion, I wouldn't say it's worth the 1 1/2 hr. drive or the $20 ticket.
