I grew up on Staten Island in the 1980's and although I loved the island, I always thought of the beaches as unsanitary and unpleasant. The type of place where hypodermic needles would be seen, and where it was not family friendly at all. Fast...More

After super storm Sandy, we couldn't wait to get our beloved boardwalk back. It's available day and night for walkers, joggers, bikers. The fresh air right off the water is great at the end of a long day.

The boardwalk is a great place to get a good walk in and enjoy the views of the coastline. The city has done a good job repairing and maintaining it for walkers and joggers to enjoy.

The boardwalk runs along South Beach with great views of NJ Highlands and Coney Island. Farther east is Fort Wadsworth; now part of the National Parks system and less trafficked. Great all year round for quiet walks. A real treasure.

This boardwalk is a serene place to walk or just sit on a bench & watch the boats pass by. The beach season is officially over for this year so there are no lifeguards on duty nor is the concession stand open. Bring your own...More

We stayed on Staten Island during our visit to NYC and enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk and beach. Would have loved to see a couple of cafes on the boardwalk itself offering coffee etc but we found a side street nearby with great...More

This has to be one of the nicest open ocean beaches within easy access of Manhattan. It is machine groomed and patrolled, so it is clean and safe. Yet there is enough beachcombing to do that any mid-western kid can learn about clams and whelks...More

Boardwalk is good all summer for walking the dog but bet. Mem. Day and end of Sept. Dogs cannot go on the beach. Dogs ok all summer on Fort Wadsworth Beach (next door to South Beach to the east but no lifeguards there.
