Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hundreds of mud-brick tombs of early Christians sit atop an earlier Egyptian necropolis. Well-preserved, It's among the very earliest Christian cemeteries anywhere. I'm a cultural anthropologist so was very interested in the interplay between Egyptian themes and Christian themes in the many colorful murals. The Chapel of the Exodus has great images of Moses and the journey out of Egypt. This is a great site for just wandering. When we were there in April, 2011, a very personable and knowledgeable young man popped up to show us around and guided us to some wonderful paintings.

We visited the place with English speaking guide as we were accompanying Her Excellency the Ambassador of Czech Republic to Egypt. It was my first time to know that we have such tombs in this area and we enjoyed the tour very much.

Bagawat now has one of the oldest churches in existence here in this necropolis. A chapel that was built around 350 BC and was used for services during the week and for burial "celebrations" for the Christians at the Oasis.
There are two tombs with early Christian paintings modeled after the Ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. One of them have excellent period paintings of the Exodus and other Bible stories on the walls.
Many tombs but only 3-4 of them with the paintings and the chapel/church all make this worth the trip!

This is an interesting site and a local informed guide makes the visit more interesting for the visitor. Some of the frescos are still recognisable and portray Moses and the flight from Egypt. Generally you will have the complete site to yourself

A very interesting stop in Kharga and there were a few gorgeous painted tombs and churches. It's definitely worth the stop if you're here!

Worth visiting. It has lots of ancient churches with very old paintings on the ceiling and intersting design and architecture.
