Incredible experience. We did the dolphin swimming excursion and although it was only a couple of hours, it was worth every penny. We had spectacular conditions, and got to swim with dolphins 3 times in our trip. They were only 15 mins from the beach! The boat was clean and larger than I’d anticipated. Swimming with the dolphins was actually quite hard work (lagoon current + swimming fast to keep up with them!) so I’d recommend this only for strong swimmers, although weaker or non-swimmers will still enjoy watching them from the boat, as they get so close. We also went further up the coast to a more secluded & sedate snorkelling spot, also incredible to see literally hundreds of fish surrounding you.
Karlos Excursions were responsive on WhatsApp, and the boat crew were friendly and courteous.

What can I say - Simply brilliant from start to finish!
I've booked many boat trips whilst away on family holidays, but all have paled into insignificance when compared to Karlos Excursions
They replied to my email enquiry and explained their services and prices within a few hours. They weren't pushy, very polite and professional and were so accomodationg to my requests.
Virginia was just great and clearly a fabulous asset to this family run business. You can feel a genuine love for what she does and went over and beyond to make sure we had the best experience we could've had. Her level of professionalism was impeccable.
She made sure everything went smoothly for us and suggested a taxi firm, who we used to take us to and from our hotel to the beach to meet the boat.
Once on board, our skipper Axel offered a wealth of knowledge for our dolphn trip ahead. He was so polite and friendly and knew exactly when to jump into the water to swim with the dolphins passing by. The boat itself was modern and spacious and had a lovely padded front deck for sunbathing and spotting dolphins on the ride there.
The 6 of us on board including my 77 year old mother, felt completely safe and in good hands with him and his assistant.
Our boat left at 8.30am, which ws a great time to see the dolphins. There were probably aorund 50-60 of them in a pod and snorkelling along side them looking down at the layers beneath the surface is a memory I'll have forever.
We had a good 2.5 hours, which was plenty. We decided not to see the rock and spend the time spotting and swimming with dolphins.
Can't recommend Karlos Excursions enough. Absolutely fabulous! Thank you Virginia!

Perfect from the start till the end! Everything from the booking process (communication with Virginia; fast and really nice) to the boat and skippers, was just perfect. And the price is totally worth the experience! Skippers really made sure we always had the best position for swimming with the dolphins, trying to do as many jumps as possible. After that we went snorkeling in the lagoon, where they explained everything about the sea life and fishes around the lagoon. Highly recommended!

We did the dolphing swimming excursion with Karlos excursion and we were a bit disapointted. The boat was nice and the guide was friendly. However it is very expensive fot what they offer. When we arrived at the place there were 4 dolphins and dezens of boats near then. As it was a private excursion and it is expensive, I imagined they had any diffference of the others groups (for example the possibility to try to see the dolphins in another place). But it didn't. The tour is only in one place, along with hundreds of people swimming after the dolphins. Also, we had our equipment, but for those who don't have, the boat doesn't offer anything and doesn't warn you about the need to bring snorkel and fins.

Hello Barbara,
Sorry to hear that the boat trip was not up to your expectations.
I am very surprised about the snorkeling equipment - these are always included in our trips & available on all our boats for guests who don't have to borrow. They are in the cupboards under the seats or under the floor.
Since you had brought your own equipment, the Skippers didn't need to take them out - I guess that's why you had the impression that there was none, when in fact, the equipment are "hidden" and out of sight on board, unless the skippers take them out.
Regarding the rate, in fact, private trips are more expensive that rates you would find for a group trip. For the private morning trip, our rate is actually among the best. If you look at private trips online, prices are nearly twice our rate for this excursion.
As regards the dolphins experience itself, our team strives to do the dolphins observation in the Southern part, off Le Morne, where it is often more quiet, though since it is a free and opened environment, there are factors beyond our control, which are unpredictable. We share an information sheet with all our guests, which explains the situation and factors which cannot be predicted.
If there were many boats around the 4 dolphins, it means that on that day, there were no other dolphins pods along the coast to be observed in secure conditions. If another option was possible, our skippers wouldn't have brought you there, as their priority is your satisfaction.
Before and during a trip, our skippers are in communication with fishermen and skippers along the coast, from other areas, to find out about presence of pods, so if you may have had the impression that no search was done, but in fact the skippers had already found out that these were the only pods along the coast. Rather than searching in vain and not finding any, they opted to bring you where they were, even if conditions were not ideal with the number of boats. Unfortunately, the popularity of this trip means that on some days, when there are only only one dolphins pod, there will inevitably be more boats around.
We are always clear about the possibilities and encourage our guests to read the practical information sheet we share before the trip, which includes information about what can be expected, especially if conditions are not ideal.
If there had been a glitch in communication on that side, I invite you to contact us via email and let us know the date and name on which you booked, so that we can identify if there was any mistake on our side.
Thanks again for your feedback.
Best regards,
Virginia

We booked a private dolphin tour (2 hours) with Karlos Excursions and needless to say, there is nothing they could have done better from our perspective. The skippers were super friendly, and even though this was a dolphin tour only, we were lucky enough to see some humpback whales from the boat as well 😍 Also we passed by the famous Chrystal Rock and stopped at a nice snorkeling spot on our way back. The communication with Virginia in advance of the trip was flawless, and I was very thankful that they were flexible enough to postpone our booking since I felt sick the day before. We recommend Karlos Excursions to everyone who is looking for an unforgettable experience with dolphins. It couldn't have been any better! 🙌🏼

We had a private tour for 2.5 hours.
In the morning we watched the dolphins and it was fantastic. Our skipper was just great because we were always ahead of the other boats. He showed us very beautiful places to snorkel and just to enjoy the views.
We're a family with 8 y.o. kid

We improvised an outing at the last minute with the Karlos excursions team. It was great! Marc came to pick us up by boat at the La Gaulette pier, where we were staying, and took us on 3 drift snorkeling dives on a coral massif in front of the Morne peninsula. This was our 3rd snorkeling trip in Mauritius, and we saw lots of things that we had not yet been able to observe, including giant clams. Marc dropped us off 3 times, to pick us up at the exit of the reef, each time telling us where to go to see this or that species. Our daughter was also able to fish for a trevally with Marc. The sea trip continued at Crystal Rock, then with a stopover at Ile aux Benitiers, which was very calm and almost deserted. Marc didn't count his time and did everything to ensure that we had a good time. Thanks for that. We will remember this family outing (2 adults and 4 teenagers) for a long time.

This excursion is planned to perfection.
Our skippers were extremely experienced and talked us through what to expect whilst on the boat.
Wow it did not dissapoint we saw dolphins and whales.
The skippers were extremely mindful of not getting to close to the animals which was lovely to hear especially seeing other tour boats racing up to them and scaring them away.
We then went to island where we was greeted by Sega sancers, amazing!
The fresh bbq was some of the most beautiful food I've ever tasted as well as the drinks flowing.
We can't recommend carlos excursions enough!
What an memorable experience, thank you.

Karlo's Excursions gave us the most memorable and the most enjoyable day ever.
We arranged our trip whilst still in the UK: the communication was smooth and easy. On the day of our trip we also received WhatsApp messages, so everything went absolutely smoothly.
The first part of the trip was swimming with dolphins: we actually didn't swim, but we saw many dolphins swimming happily in and out of water. Other members of our group were a bit more brave and they jumped in and swam alongside the pods.
For the rest of the day we enjoyed a boat ride and a BBQ on the island. Karlos was there waiting for us and he was a fantastic host. The 'jungle juice' got us all into the more relaxed mood and the drinks were flowing until the most delicious BBQ was served. There was everything on offer there: vegetables, fish, chicken, sausages, prawns, garlic bread and for dessert the most delicious grilled bananas.
We made friends with other guests on the trip and had some interesting conversations with Karlos and young members of his team. They are all lovely people and I can't recommend this trip highly enough.

We booked a private half day boat trip to go dolphin watching, snorkling and visit crystal rock and the experience was fantastic.
Virginia was great with explaining all the options available, we were initially looking to do the full day excursion with barbecue on the beach but unfortunately there weren’t enough bookings to make this viable so we opted for the private half day excursion.
We travelled from Grand Baie and were a little late in arriving at the meeting point in Le Morne with the skipper Ricardo, but he was great and it didn’t cut down our time on the boat.
It rained for a lot of our time on the boat but that didn’t dampen the experience. We saw so many dolphins which was amazing and were given plenty of time to observe and get photos/videos, and the snorkelling was brilliant, crystal clear water with lots of fish to see up close. Again we were given plenty of time for this which was great. We then finished off with visiting crystal rock.
If looking to do a dolphin tour and snorkelling while in Mauritius I would absolutely recommend going with Karlos excursions 😊

Hello... Please can you advise of departure points for the Dolphin and folkloric BBQ trip? I note that you pick up from hotels in le morne area only, we are staying in ravenalla attitude so presumably we would have to make our own way to the pick up point? Thank you
Written 27 October 2019
Hello,
Very sorry for the delay - we are not notified promptly about questions here. In fact, it is best to get in touch via email/WhatsApp - did you use one of these means already?
Navigator, thanks for your reply and recommendation here.
Our boat departures are indeed done only from Le Morne area. We do dolphins observation from the Southern area to the West. Pick-up is not organised by ourselves, but theire are taxis assigned to each hotel. If you have any issue with that, I can provide some contacts I have in the region.
I remain available via email /WhatsApp if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Virginia

Hi, I and my wife do not know swimming. Is it advisable for us to book a dolphin excursion at all? We would love to see the dolphins even if its just from the boat.
Written 17 September 2019
Hi,
Thanks everyone for your answers & for recommending the trip :)
I confirm that you can stay on the boat to watch the dolphins - it is not necessary to get in the water - in fact many, if not most prefer to watch from the boat.
You can email me if you need any further information.
Best regards,
Virginia

Hi, could you please let me know what your rates are for a whale watching excursion and what days you go out to see them? What time do you recommend leaving? If we go on a full day dolphin
trip, when does it end? And if you get word of a whale sighting on a full day trip, even if it's not on the itinerary of the trip, would the boat try to find the whale? Sorry for the many questions!!
Written 9 September 2019
Hi,
Sure! July to October/November is the season when humpback whales migrate to Mauritius for reproduction & breeding. Whales are more difficulty spotted than dolphins- there is a 50-60% chance to see them on a whale search trip. Though our Skipper will do his best to find them, this is not guaranteed, even if it is the season.
The starting price for the private morning trip with dolphins, whale search, snorkeling in lagoon & crystal rock visit is Rs 12,000 /320 euros for up to 4 people for a 3.5 to 4h trip. The rate remains remains the same even if whales are not seen. If you wish, we may allow the possibility of deciding to search for whales on the day - if the sea conditions are ideal (and if we have no other bookings planned afterwards). The Skipper can advise if there are more chances, and if he has heard about any sightings, though it is still no guaranteed that they will be seen when the boat reaches the area - it will depend on sea conditions as well. It is important to note that swimming with whales is illegal in Mauritius.
For the full day group trip (starting at 8 am and ending around 3pm), the Skippers can do a small detour if they hear about sightings or see whales close by, in the morning. However, no search as such will be done in that case, considering the high cost of fuel for such an exploration.
Feel free if you have any other questions - you may email or WhatsApp me for more details.
Best regards,
Virginia

Hello Vittoria,
We do the full day group trips on specific days only, as we need to have a minimum number of people to do the trips. Depending on the demands closer to the date, we may do other days, but we do not know yet.
We do private trips on other days - also available for the 3rd of November. You may contact us via email for more information.

Hello!
I would like to inquire whether this tour includes pick up and drop off from the hotel (from Belle Mare)? I am looking to book on the 13th of August. Thank you.
Written 25 July 2019
Hi Amna,
I have replied via email, but I will also reply here for others: we pick-up by boat from hotels in the Le Morne region only.
Transfers from other regions are not included, as we are only licensed for boat activities. Normally there are taxis assigned to each hotel.
If you have any difficulty to find a taxi, I have some contacts numbers - they work independently from us.
Our team looks forward to host you on the 13th!
Best regards,
Virginia

How many people do they take on the boat? Is there sun cover? Is it suitable to bring 3.5 yr old if there are two of us?
Written 17 May 2019
Hello,
Our boats can take 8 to 10 people per boat.
The boat is partly covered/not all seats are shaded. Yes, you can bring a 3.5 year old, no problem.
It is advised to wear sun protection for the trip.
Feel free to email or WhatsApp us if you have any other questions!

Is this trip suitable for kids? We have an 11 year old.
Thanks
Written 2 May 2019
Absolutely! Not everyone jumped out of the boat to swim with dolphins, you have the option. The snorkelling in the shallow water is fantastic, loads of fish to see (definitely wear sea shoes, as some sea urchins and rough coral). The bbq is great, soft drinks available too. There was a child similar age on our trip, she totally loved it!

Is there toilet facilities?
Written 14 September 2018
The boat pick up is just passed the hotel with a toilet facility. Once out in the ocean though there wasn’t one that I recall. It’s a smallish boat. There may have been one below deck. On the Island tour where you’re out for longer hours, there are toilets in the island stop off but it’s jungle like make shift. It had toilet paper and soap but I would always travels with these items and hand sanitizer just in case. Hope that helps. The tour was brilliant and the two guys were mermen - knew the ocean like the backs of their hands.
