Our trip to the Pantanal to be guided through the natural beauty by Ailton was an exhilarating and touching honor! From the beginning, driving on the Transpantanera, we were filled with excitement seeing Storks, Caiman, Capybara, Macaw, Tapir, and more. And we had yet to arrive. When we did finally arrive we were met by the passionate and caring Ailton, who exuded the love for the animals and nature the entire time, while educating us on all things Pantanal. Extremely knowledgeable and open to questions and dialogue, Ailton was the perfect guide. We worked together as a group to decide what was best for us to see the wonders of this precious habitat. Jaguars, Monkeys, Otters...amazing. Our experience was 10 out of 10 and we will be back. Thank you!

It was an amazing experience! The host was verry personal and friendly! He has a big passion for the wildlife and he tells about it with a lot of knowledge! I saw a lot of beautiful wildlife even when it was low/wet season. Maybe i had some luck but it was a wonderful trip.

My favorite place is Pantanal Jaguar Camp, where we stayed for a long weekend with a wonderful hospitability and great boat rides into the wild.

We spent three nights at Pantanal Jaguar Camp organised by their travel company Pantanal Nature. It was an excellent way to experience the unique Pantanal. The camp is located in Porto Jofre in the heart of the Pantanal and offers trips on the river in high-speed boats to explore the wildlife and the nature of the Pantanal. Both the lodge and the travel company are run by Ailton – a local guide, nature lover and expert - and general manager who has dedicated his life to the Pantanal, its Jaguars and wildlife - with a clear eco-tourism policy. Just spending a day on a boat with Ailton in the Pantanal is worth the trip here.

The lodging and food in simple but comfortable, relaxing, and adequate. What you come for are the birds, animals and nature – and here that experience cannot be beat.

We visited in June which is start of high season and would recommend that. The Jaguars are out and about, the Pantanal is still green and the tourists still few. Another tip: don’t stay further north and come down for a day tour, it really doesn’t compare to getting up at 5:30 in the middle of the jungle and being on the water from 07:00 until sunset at 17:30.

We would in a heartbeat recommend Jaguar Camp, Pantanal Nature and Ailton to anyone interested in nature, eco-tourism and unique experiences!

There are no words that adequately describe how amazing my experience was! The Pantanal is the most beautiful ecosystem on the planet and the work being done for conservation there is mesmerizing. I wouldn’t trade my time there for anything in the world!!

The pantanal is the best place in the world to see jaguars in the wild. We spent six days there with our fantastic guide Eddie! Eddie went above and beyond to find the best animals for us.

We were so lucky with that we saw Jaguars, toucans, giant otter, capybara, tapir, armadillo and giant anteaters to name a few.

Also the pantanal has the best sunsets we have ever seen. After a long day of being out on the boat driving back through the sunsets was incredible.

This is a place that is every bit as special to go on safari as anywhere in Africa. It’s one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

Would highly recommend Pantanal Nature and our great guide Eddie to anyone looking for a nature holiday. Perfect in every way!

I just spent 7N/8D with Pantanal Nature at their Jaguar Camp in Porto Joffre. I highly recommend this outfit. I’m already planning to return in 2021!

The part of the Pantanal they operate in is the best place on earth to see jaguar. Jaguar camp is situated in forest near Porto Joffre while the wildlife viewing is mostly done in the nearby Parque Estadual Encontro das Aguas.

Amenities are basic but clean and new. Hot water, air conditioning, some good food and a little bit of internet was more than I was expecting. Great effort has been put into attracting birdlife to the camp. I spent many hours taking photos of toucans, hyacinth macaws, parrots and more all around the camp. The one morning I even found tapir tracks in the camp from the night before.

Wildlife viewing is from a motorized boat. In the period I was there we had 17 jaguar sightings of 13 different individuals. They were extremely good sitings. In more than 10 trips on the river, we only had one trip where we did not spot jaguar. We had a cub sitting on the river bank maybe 10 meters away, a large male coming down to drink at a similar distance, mother & cub swimming, the hunting of capybaras and cayman, silhouettes against riverbanks and more. We had a female come down to drink behind us where we were having breakfast on the river on my last morning. She must have been 5-6 meters away before we spotted her. Other animals we saw included tapir, ocelot, peccaries, giant river otter, neotropical otter and many more.

Sunsets and sunrises on the river are magical. Ask the guides to take you out early one morning for sunrise on the river. Jaguars are active most of the day, but the dawn chorus, the cayman displaying, as well as the chances of seeing other animals increase dramatically. The first morning we went out early we saw tapir, red brocket deer, marsh deer drinking and a large male jaguar hunting cayman.

I was fortunate to have Ailton as a guide. He was assisted by Caesar. Ailton speaks excellent English and knows the birds and animals of the Pantanal like the back of his hand. He has guided some very famous documentary crews and can show you where some of the famous jaguar video sequences were shot. I would highly recommend asking for him to be your guide. He taught me the different bird calls, intricacies of the different animal behaviors, how to spot jaguars etc.

Getting to the northern Pantanal is not difficult. I flew from São Paulo through to Cuiaba then drove the Transpantaneira through to Porto Joffre. The fires have damaged some of the bridges but the road was still passable. Many animals can be seen along the road. Marsh deer, agouti, capybaras, spectacled cayman in their 100’s and a wide variety of birds was what I saw. Keep in mind that there is no mobile reception along most of this road and also no reception in Porto Joffre its self.

For emergencies there is a satellite phone available and there is a long runway in Porto Joffre for medevacs. The camp does keep first aid kits, basic medications and so on. There are no medical facilities in the immediate vicinity.

Oct/Nov is a very hot time to visit the region, but with the heat comes the greater likelihood of getting good animal sightings. The recent fires have damaged large swathes of the Pantanal, but the wetlands should recover. I’m very glad I visited!
