Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have lived in Chile a very long time and we have continually hiked the dunes, they are amazing, they are a wonder. Unfortunately, people keep dumping trash and partying on the dunes, there are no signs or laws enforcing cleaning up trash. The keep building on this beautiful space and it's a damn shame.

From Valparaiso Errazuriz street, orange/white buses 601,602,605 run to Concon via Vina del Mar ( libertad ) to the dunes & on to Concon town & beach. (1 usd) . The Dunes are between the coast road & a higher inland road & the buses use the 2 routes, (601 coast road) . The dunes are nicest on the coast side. where the sea breeze smooths the sand. From the inland road it would only take 30 mins to walk to the coast road. On the coast there is a little headland (with a big Concon sign) which has nice sea views. Here is the path up the dunes. BUT Best to go at busy times, eg. late afternoon (5pm) when locals come. If alone it might not be safe, 2 cops were posted to the headland to prevent crime there!
Concon beach has surfing, food , showers, trinket shops.

Simply gorgeous! After seeing some pictures from a fellow hostel guest, I knew I had to see it for myself. I had a little trouble getting there (I took the 602 bus according to Google Maps, which is not the best choice), but it really was worth it. The dunes are so pretty it's almost not real. I went on a sunny day, which I recommend. :)
The sand gets hot, so bring shoes to wear...boots that come up your leg are even better. Sand boarding is available, although I didn't do it. Sunglasses and even a scarf to cover up your head are a good idea, it gets windy and sand will get all in your hair and eyes if you're not careful.
To get here by public transit: take the 602 bus from Valparaiso. Get off when you see the dunes to your left and the grocery store to your right.

I was renting an apartment nearby and these dunes are lovely. Really odd as they are in the middle of a built up area. I wouldn't go during the heat of the day but sunset is nice.

Interesting, but a simple drive- by is enough unless you are an adventure-seeker who wants to "sled" or surf down the dunes.

2 grownups and 2 children enjoyed it thoroughly. Instead of 1 hr rental, they accepted to give us 2 boards for 1/2 hr. It was enough time; climbing the sand tires you off! It seems they are at the base of the dunes (opposite side of sea) during the afternoons. The shop is just the tailgate of an SUV.

Just north of Valpo & Vina del Mar, the dunes of Concon are worth a visit. You can simply walk up and take in the ocean/city views or you can rent a cheap "sandboard".
Free to visit, fairly steep, but soft sands and quite vast. Be warned: sand gets VERY HOT in summer months!

We heard about the Dunes so had to go see them and perhaps Snow board down. There are some rentals at the base, just guys hanging out. What we did not know was there is BLACK sand mixed in and the sand is beyond HOT. It was not a hot day. We were in Flip Flops and it was struggle to get to the top. It was painful. The view was cool. I suspect the Dunes won't be around in 10 years as they don't generate revenue and all the new construction will continue to eat into them. Definitely a must do, in tennis shoes or boots.

The Dunes from Condon is a nice place to visit for the sunset. You can aswell do some sand boarding there for 1'000 Chilenin Pesos per hour. They have two boards you can take (The quality of the boards is not that good).
However the Dunes look very nice and the view you have from there is amazing. Definitely worth visiting.

Though visible from miles away down the Vina and Valparaiso coast, it is worth the effort to drive to the Dunes and see them from the highway above and the coastal road below. A nice 90 minute excursion from the city. The coastal drive back towards the city is spectacular, offering views of rocks and waves, beaches and local restaurants. A popular growing area, ConCon already has started to resemble Miami Beach and Waikiki (perhaps not a bad thing).

Hola, se puede pasar caminando desde la roco oceánica a las dunas??

Gabriela, buenas tardes.
Claro que sí. Están muy cerca. Y es un bonito panorama de naturaleza en medio de la ciudad.

Beside the road to get into, it would be rare if you don't see them.
good luck ;)

Hello!
Would love to know if sand buggys or ATVs are allowed on the sand dunes!
Thanks!

HI,
Pretty sure, no.
I saw no motorized vehicles nor did I see any evidence (tracks in the sand or signs). I walked around the southern half and saw no rentals.
*Should have included in my review that I saw no public bathrooms
Make fun!

Nope. Lots of boards available. Show up, give them 1000 pesos and off you go.
