Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This mountainous region of Corsica is spectacular. We drove up from Ajaccio on the D81 road, and it took around 1 hour 30 minutes to Piana, where we stopped at a cafe for some refreshments.
The Calanques (or Les Calanche) starts just after the town of Piana, driving north towards Porto.
I would highly recommend parking your car at the free car park, which is shortly after the first sharp bend in the road. From here you can walk along a fairly gentle path (the yellow route from the car park) which roughly follows the direction of the D81 road but offers a much higher perspective than the road. There are so many good vantage points from which to take pictures. The best thing about taking this hiking route is that, after about an hour, it comes back down and joins the road so that you can walk back along the road, back to the car park. This way you see the superb cliffs and mountains from two different perspectives - the high hiking trail and the lower road.
If you are looking for the rock with the heart-shaped hole in it then this is best seen from the road and you will see it as you walk back to the car park on this route. If you are just driving and not hiking then go past the free car park and then as you enter the Calanques, shortly after the Z-shaped bend in the road, as the road straightens out you will see the heart rock on your left. You will not be disappointed by the incredible views.

After many many curves you reach those amazing rock formations. You can park on the side of the road and take pictures without problems.

Great part of Corsica. Beautiful views. Small road by car, lots of turns and always stopping places to take pictures of the grand landscape! A must in Corsica!

At the beginning of October the drive from Piano through the Calenques is a beautiful thing to do. Stunning rock formations, beautiful views and a fun road to drive. Plenty of pull ins to stop for photo opportunities. However, for some at busier times of the year it might prove more challenging.

Road tripping round Corsica was beautiful and more so thanks to the Calanques! At sun set they really light up! Careful on the road! Very, VERY narrow!

Driving through the gorge of the Calanques, from Piana to Porto, is an
experience you will never forget. They say that it’s ideal to cross it during the sunset, when the red color of the rocks is even more dramatic. But anytime of the day you can enjoy this great monument that nature has created.

As others have written, this is a most spectacular experience of rock formations. When in Corsica, and about 90 minutes from Ajaccio, this is an experience that cannot be captured in words and photographs don’t do justice enough.
Best to walk the windy narrow road - be wary of vehicles but they are wary of pedestrians as well - as there is no seperate footpath or grade separated path.
The beauty is sensational.
And a walk through the pretty village of Piana is equally rewarding.

The best way to visit is by the sea, but you can surely find your happiness by walking on the shore. There are plenty of small beaches and coves, snorkeling in the crystal clear sea there is a fantastic experience!

The intricately carved rocks named Calanques are not only a landmark of Corsica. They can be found on the Cote d'Azur near Marseille and even on the Adriatic coast of Italy near Ancona. An amazing miracle of nature occurred due to the slow lowering of the rocks into the sea and erosion, which gave the granite rocks a bizarre shape in the form of fabulous animals, hearts, etc. You can get here from the village of Pyana on foot after overcoming about 3 km. I preferred to stay in Porto Ota 10 km from here and get here on a moped. Of course, it is possible by car, but in this area there are only a few "pockets" for parking on the serpentine and they can be occupied during the season... The sight is impressive... UNESCO has included the rocks in its World Heritage List for a reason...

Amazing place that you can visit by car via D81, by boat by using a boat at Porto or by foot: Capo Rosso trek or Sentier des muletiers

Hello. How can I go to the Calanques de Piana from Bastia? We don't have driving license, having rental cars is not an option for us.
