The Basilica is just a short walk from the Plaza Espana parking garage. The altar is lovely and not too elaborate. Although you enter by the side go out the front entrance to see some wonderful stone carving at the entrance. Definitely worth the visit.

A beautiful and historic church in Pontevedra. No photos allowed inside (as per the many many signs) but that didn't stop the vast majority of tourists sadly. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Beautiful little church by European standards but truly a gem. Worth a few minutes. Easy walk from town center.

An interesting building with some unusual features. The church was locked but we could get as far as the glass door to see the chancel and nave etc. There were no gins to give an indication of opening times.

Right on the Camino so you must stop to light a candle and receive a stamp for your Pilgrim's passport. Very nice walk up and the church is huge. So glad is stopped to see it.

Lovely church, service very prompt. Rainy, windy, and cold out, a bit damp inside, but the seat warmers were a nice surprise.

Pontevedra is packed with beautiful religious buildings and churches made of stone with extraordinary surroundings that invites to strolls and stop to have an appetitive and an albarino wine.

What I like the most at the Basilica Menor of Santa Maria la Mayor is the main portico, beautifully sculpted in stone, with no less than 30 carved figures sculpted by two major artists, Joao Nobre from Portugal and Cornielis from The Netherlands. The one representing the erudit Saint Jerome with spectacles is outstanding. This large church is without any... More

Not entirely sure how much we liked this cathedral. It has some excellent stonework on the outside, particularly on the main facade, but the interior isn't that great. And the smell of damp was rather strong. It's a pity as Pontevedra is a great town, one of my favourites, and I'd wanted to like this cathedral more than I did.... More
