- Hannah B7 contributionsIf you do one thing on St Mary’s - do this.Incredible, breathtaking and spectacular. A thoroughly recommended memorable experience. If you do one thing in Scilly - do this. We had 2 sessions with the riding centre: first was a 30 minute session for my two boys (with little to no experience on horses) so they could familiarise themselves with how to sit, how to ‘steer’ etc. my eldest has additional needs including learning disabilities and they were simply amazing with him. Today we went out on a one hour trek including down to the beach. Oh my word. My breath was taken away more times than I can count. Phenomenal views, fabulous scenery and the air as clear as it comes. But the real stars of the show here are the instructors and their fabulous horses. Claire, Lucy and Tasha were so calm and patient with us, really encouraging and we felt utterly safe the whole time. The horses too - they clearly know when they have utterly incompetent people on their backs and are so forgiving and helpful. I can’t remember when I last enjoyed an hour so much. Worth every penny and I can’t recommend this stables and the trek enough. Thank you. (And mention to the gorgeous stable cat Jasper too!)Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 April 2024
- Neil CLichfield, United Kingdom11 contributionsFabulous horsesAmazing experience with Claire, Lucy & Tasha and the horses! Wonderful to see people with so much knowledge, care and love for the horses……. As 3 beginners we had a blast on the trek, especially walking through the sea and experiencing the horses having so much fun!!! Again …..thanks to all , fabulous time enjoyed!!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 May 2024
- Vacation670341895434 contributionsFantasticOur ride was just fantastic, and a brilliant way to see the island. There were two of us, with two very different levels of experience, and Lucy and Tasha were incredibly skilled at helping each of us have a good time. The horses were utterly lovely (I had Patrick: a true gent). Our hack took us over Porth Hellick down, where we got lovely views across the island and sea, then onto the beach so we could let the horses have a dip in the water. I’d 100% recommend this to future travellers.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2024
- Brigitte B2 contributionsTop rate experienceMy sister and I, who are both experienced riders, had a really enjoyable trek. The riding centre is very professionally run with the safety of the riders and well-being of the horses their priority. Many thanks to Tash, Lucy and Claire for a memorable time whilst in the Scilly Isles.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 June 2024
- LindaYeovil, United Kingdom13 contributionsHorse Therapy on the Isles of ScillyPatrick was such a lovely horse to ride , a gentle giant. So big in fact I didn't get my feet wet when we went in the sea. 😊 Just the right amount of horse therapy needed this morning. All the instructors were friendly and knowledgeable about the horses and the island. A great way to see part of the island . Would highly recommend.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 11 July 2024
- RobEveryLondon, United Kingdom3 contributionsSuperb horseback experienceJust back from an outstanding 1 hour trek. The route was varied and beautiful, including a paddle into the sea. The horses were very well looked after and the centre expertly managed. We felt welcome as soon as we arrived, and the instructors looked after us throughout the trip. Thank you Claire and Tasha.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 July 2024
- Nick H3 contributionsFantastic experienceWe had a fantastic time at the Riding Centre. My wife and I were absolute horse riding novices. We were so well looked after by Claire and her staff/helpers, and were put immediately at ease. The horses are magnificent, clearly very happy and so well looked after. We loved the ride, including a highlight of riding into the sea. We recommended the Riding Centre to so may people after our ride, including to staff at out hotel. We just loved everything about it and thoroughly recommend this experience to everyone.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2024

From communication on the mainland arranging the day to moving the time slot to avoid riding in the rain, Claire was helpful and accommodating.
The horses; Summer and Jules, were well tempered and a joy to ride. Claire was friendly, warming and very patient and it was obvious to see, horses were her passion by the care she took and knowledge she shared.
Claire made the whole experience a pleasure whilst Summer and Jules made the ride memorable and a bucket list tick with a trek on the beach.
Thoroughly recommend doing this if you’re visiting Isles of Scilly and staying at St Mary’s regardless of your age or riding experience.

My children are currently having horse riding lessons at home but we thought it would be a nice experience to all ride together and there was an appeal to going for a hack rather than just walking around in an arena.
The venue was easy to find and we were given boots and hats and shown to our horses.
All the leaders were really friendly and the horses clearly well looked after.
We set off across the countryside and along the beach, with the horses having a dip in the sea, much to the delight of the children!
It lasted an hour although didn’t feel that long, at £170 for the 4, it’s not a cheap activity, but we all really loved the experience - even my husband who had been nervous before we arrived.

Claire was quick to respond to my initial email and arrange a hack so it was a very easy process. The warm welcome and sensible health and safety forms to complete before setting off (without being over the top!) demonstrated a friendly and professional set up.
I rode an eye catching little mare who gave me a great ride. She knew her job and had a chirpy personality which meant she was fun to ride. It is a wonderful way to see the island and the highlight was wading through the bay at Porth Hellick. Lucy led the hack and was very friendly and helpful so it was like riding with a friend. The weather and ground conditions meant we couldn't canter but Claire had flagged that up before I booked so it wasn't a problem. I can recommend St Mary's Riding Centre and thank the staff and horses for a lovely morning!

We booked an hour's ride here as a group of 4 x adults and 3 x kids (aged 8, 10 and 11). All of us were novices but we were all pleasantly surprised at what a great activity this was. We trekked down to Porth Hellick and rode through the water on the horses and even had a try at trotting. The horses were amazingly well behaved and one of our group didn't even have to be led due to the horse's ability to just follow the others (and not due to his horse-whispering abilities!). The staff were all really capable, professional, friendly and welcoming. A massive thank you to Claire and all her team for probably the best thing we did whilst on Scilly.

My daughter ( age 10) had a 1/2 hour private lesson whilst we were on holiday last week. It was absolutely excellent. The instructor was enthusiastic, motivating, and kind, the progression my daughter made in the short lesson was outstanding. We can not wait to go back next year!

We had a lovely ride this morning with Claire and her team. The route is beautiful and takes you down on to the beach and in to the sea at Porth Hellick. The horses were all very well behaved so it’s perfect for even the most inexperienced riders. They can cater to different levels as well as long as you let Claire know in advance.
Would highly recommend this to anyone if you like horses and want to see some amazing views of Scilly.

I’m a regular rider and always keen to get a ride when on holiday. I had ridden at St Mary’s Riding Centre 10 years ago so knew it was good, but it was even better this time. Glorious scenery, great weather, a lovely ride on Summer which included walking in the sea at Porth Hellicck. Claire and Lucy were great at customising rides to suit individuals’ experience and we all had a great time. So grateful!

Stopped for one day at St Mary's Scilly on a cruise. Before the cruise I contacted St Mary's Riding Centre and booked a trek for two, my partner is an experienced rider and I would call myself a novice.
On the day, the weather was perfect. We got a taxi (also pre-booked) up to the Centre and all went like clockwork. We were impressed by the efficient and friendly way the establishment was run and the quality of the horses. The ride, accompanied by two of the centre's young assistants was highly enjoyable along bridle paths, country roads and the beach.
This experience turned out to be the highlight of our holiday and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys riding. If your cruise stops at St Mary's why not pre-book a visit. Claire is so well organised, it will be no problem.

Had a wonderful trek with Claire and her team over the May half term holiday. The horses were beautifully mannered and extremely responsive, and were obviously enjoying the ride as much as we were. Great fun to paddle in the sea with them too, on a gorgeous sunny day. We’ll be back!
