The West End of Rottnest is quite a hike from the settlement at Thompson's Bay where the ferries dock but it's worth the effort. If you hire a bike, the return trip will take several hours. Remember to take plenty of water with you. You...More

When I heard that we were going to be seeing NZ fur seals at the West End, I expected some small cute and cuddly critters. I didn't realise just how huge they were! Amazing scenery and the seals were great to watch.

We arrived by the hop on, hop off bus. Walked to the seal viewing platform and were amazed at the awesome views. Dozens of seals were out on the rocks sunning themselves. The strong onshore winds were present but not uncomfortable. The other viewing area...More

It took me one and half hour to cycle there from Fay Beach (12 km one way), with lots of undulating hills to climb(to and fro). The road is very open and mostly isolated with no street lights, no cafe or pit stops for water...More

The most beautiful Aquamarine sea, absolutely stunning. Clear blue waters. Snorkelling and swimming just perfect. We cycled there as we had hired bikes from the Rottnest Express.

West End is a must visit destination when you are at Rottenest Island. This point is the absolute West End of the Island, overlooking Cape Vlaming on the west and Fish Hook Bay on the east. Great Indian Ocean view, strong wind, big waves meeting...More

It is worth the effort to visit this end of the island but take the bus if you want the easy way. The bike ride would be fairly hard in the wind. The coastline is rugged and spectacular and there are viewing platforms where you...More

Was at the very end of the island but worth the trip. Loved seeing the seals playing in the ocean and dolphins in the waves. Was cold but the bus came around wick enough we didn't freeze.

If you are able, bike there. We have been right to the end numerous times over the years and between the seasons the feel of the place when biking varies a lot. It is so windswept, desolate and feels so isolated at times, it is...More

Depends. On a map, not far. On a very hot day, FAR. Allow yourself 60 to 90 minutes cycling each way, to allow for admiration and water stops. Worth the energy expended??? YES, glorious.
