The aproximately 30 km drive north from Walpole to Mount Frankland is worth spending a morning. Climb to the summit where there is a fire tower and great views of the surrounding countryside. Do the mountain circuit walk and visit the viewing platform for north Mount Frankland. Take a picnic lunch or morning tea.

It is quite a drive (30 minutes) on a red dusty gravel track (beware of large lorries in the middle of the road) to get to the carpark. There's a short walk to an information / education centre and then the walk starts up to the top. You pass an old cabin where the Lookout used to live and then on up. There is a ladder to climb enroute so physically you have to have some ability. The climb is definitely worth as the views are 360 and magnificent and on the top is a lookout station which is manned. Again there was hardly anyone else around and we stopped and picnicked by the ladder on a bench. We returned to the carpark and then carried on to the Wilderness Lookout which had some good views.

1 x 53yo, 1 x 13yo, 1 x 12yo, 1 x 6yo climbed the path to the top of Mt Frankland - bad knees and all. No-one really struggled. The top is fenced so no kiddies will go running off the edge. The views are well worth the trek.
Took the long way back, around the base of Mt Frankland. It was a narrow bush walking track. The 6yo managed it easily and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of finding a safe way down. We did all have walking sticks.
The picnic area was lovely. The toilets are long-drop so the golden rule of "Hold your breath and don't look down" applies.
The dirt road was passable in a Mazda 3 after 3 days of rain - not constant, nor particularly heavy. A few corrugations.
There is a short flat path for wheelchairs or prams.
The day before us, someone we met at the caravan park had done the climb with a 4yo.
Recommendations - take it easy, plenty of platforms to take rests on.

I was pleasantly surprised by his attraction. The drive in is picturesque. The tourism information beneath the walk is in itself an interesting stone structure in a beautiful spot with a lovely view. Unfit, elderly or disinterested people could still enjoy this level of the attraction.
The walk up Mt Frankland starts easily enough, along a wide sealed path. Soon the gradient increases and then you find yourself walking up large steps, and finally, a pair of safe and well built ladders.
My children enjoyed the journey up Mt Frankland, and the view was very rewarding.

Simply stunning 360 view! The climb up is not difficult and should be doable for most. It can be a little bit tiring but go at your own pace and you will be fine. A middle aged couple did the climb with us and made it to the top too (We're in our mid 20s).
However do note that there is a portion near the top that requires you to climb up a rather steep flight of steps. It's very similar to those you find in ships/boats.
If you're driving a rental, take the north walpole road up from Walpole to Mt Frankland. The last bit of the road is gravel but that's ok. The route from the S Western Highway is gravel all the way and is a little nerve wrecking if you're on a rental :)

We did he easy walk due to elderly relatives and it was lovely. Perfect for wheelchair access leading out to a great view with seating available along the way. Worth the drive to go and see it. Amazing what they can do these days

Don’t let the steps or the drive deter you. The views from the top of Mount Frankland will soon make you forget the leg burn and the fact so few will be sharing the view with you makes it even better. Loved standing on top with magnificent views with nothing but birdsong for company.

Mount Frankland National Park is surprisingly under-the-radar: considering the effort put into installing the steel walkways, sheltered facilities and picnic spaces in this park, there is very little in the way of highway signage to indicate that this should be one of the Walpole region’s star attractions. And yet, at the end of an unsealed road lined with tall tingle trees are three very enjoyable short walks: the 800-metre Summit Trail; the 1.6-km Caldyanup Trail; and the 300-metre steel walkway panoramic lookout.
The Summit Trail, although Graded 4, is not too difficult because it is entirely sealed before the final ladder climb to the summit of Mt Frankland. Poster boards about the job of the towerman were informative and interesting.
The Caldyanup Trail, although Graded only 3, is in fact more challenging, in this walker’s opinion, because it wends around the hill through the forest, among boulders and through some steep inclines and descents.
Finally, the Grade 1 steel boardwalk rewards you with a panoramic lookout across the Mt Frankland wilderness.
Try all three trails in one full morning, like we did - they made for a lovely time.

The drive up from Walpole is very nice.
The lookout (600m return is a very easy stroll on a paved path.is easy access and very beautiful. We went on a rainy day but it was still very nice.
The climb to the top is also reasonably short (600m one way). It is paved most of the way with steps and ladders towards the end. Easy to do with kids as we saw lots of other family with small kids (under 5). On the rainy day it was windy at the top but still very nice. There is a few solar panels you can shelter behind on a rainy/cold day if required.
In total we spend about 1.5 to 2 hours at the location and saw the peak, Soho lookout and the main paved lookout.

You have two levels of walking that available to see wonderful views. We did both and once I got my breath back it was wonderful. It's was very clean and had wheelchair access. Red flower gums were just starting to flower.
