Explore a real gravitational anomaly at Mystery Hill! Amazing visitors...

Explore a real gravitational anomaly at Mystery Hill! Amazing visitors since 1948 visitors receive a quick guided tour of the Mystery Platform where two guest stand on a perfectly level platform but appear to grow and shrink as they switch sides and the Mystery House where the laws of gravity appear to have been forgotten as things roll up hill and visitors experience a strange pull to the North. After the tour guest are invited to stay and experiment as long as they like before moving on to the Hall of Mystery with a series of Optical Illusions and Hands on activities including The Shadow Wall, the Spooky Spigot, The Flying Mirror, and everyone's favorite Bubblerama where you can actually stand inside a giant soap bubble. Visitors also get free admission to visit the Moon and Irene Mullins Arrowhead Collection of over 100,000 arrowheads they collected over their life time and to a walk thru the 1903 Dougherty House the home of the founders of Appalachian State University. Also while at Mystery Hill visitors can buy a bucket and try their hand at Gem Mining at the area's premier gem mine Doc's Rocks and the Appalachian Fossil Museum. Open 7 days a week year round, rain or shine. Mystery Hill is located between Boone and Blowing Rock on Hwy 321.

The whole family had fun! The adults got a little queasy in the vortex room but the kids thought it was great!! Will go again if we're in the area.

A friendly tour guide takes you through a series of optical illusions on Mystery Hill. You end with a vortex room, which some of our group found disorienting. The smaller kids liked it, though and had a great time with a "water that flows up hill" spout.

We visited Mystery Hill a couple years ago, and enjoyed it....then went back a few months ago again....and we were blown away! The place looks PHENOMENAL! The gift shop has soooo much updated merchandise, and reasonable prices! We purchased some great items to put away for Christmas gifts! Angie Underwood, who has taken over Merchandising for Mystery Hill, has found... More

If you paid for Mystery hill you got to see lots of native American artifacts next door. That were cool. The Vortex room in Mystery Hill made adults feel funny but grand kids liked. It was fun place for kids. If we did not have kids we would not go back.

So much to see here! Lots of illusions and the guide was awesome! (Wish we could remember his name?? Young guy, long hair :) with the patience of a saint(had a screaming child on our tour who was driving everyone crazy except the guide! ) We were 4 adults on a Fall road trip who wanted to see everything the area... We live 15 minutes from Mystery Hill. When people come from out of town to stay with us, we usually take them here. Our last group of friends loved the room with the vortex (as most friends do)! I was so impressed with the new merchandise in the gift shop and the reasonable prices! There have been a lot of... More

This isn't the most amazing place in the world, but it was pleasant. We spent a good ten minutes in the mystery room and got some great pictures, though I definitely wouldn't say the 8 of us got $70 worth of fun out of it. I feel like places like this with tacky gifts and cheesy tours aren't very prevalent... More

Want to bring out the child in everyone - no matter their age? Then this is a fun place to visit. Visited with an older friend and we both had a ton of laughs. It's worth the stop and everyone will love it.

The main attraction was definitely the "room". It was fascinating but other than that and overall, the experience was just "blah". Our "guide" literally seemed rushed once we got to the vortex room and literally ran out and we were left not even really understanding where to go next. I actually had questions about the attraction as I was fascinated... More
