Open vistas can be hard to find but the Art Loeb/Black Balsam Knob areas are loaded! I love being able to see 100 miles on a clear day! Several peaks over 6000 feet provide some challenge. But I'm 64 and made it easy! On day...More

This trail is not for the faint of heart or shortness of breath as it traverses 3 peaks over 6,000 feet and ends atop Cold Mountain, another peak over 6,000. Plus many more ups and downs along the way. It probably should not be attempted...More

This summer I only hiked a portion of the trail near the parkway with my son. I have previously hiked much of it. The whole trail can be challenging with the elevation changes, but it crosses some beautiful mountain balds through the Pisgah NF. If...More

Loved the open sky views, the path was well marked with a steady steep climb, the view was amazing. Liked the fact that there were no trees, only at the beginning, eyes open spaces that reminded me of home in England.

My family loves going on the Art Loeb and especially, the Black Balsam section. The view can't be beaten and this section isn't overly taxing for folks that may not get to hike often.
