I want to add one more thing - shopping for your son's "domestic" needs, etc. I imagine you will purchase most items on arrival like most from "out of area." There is little shopping in Chapel Hill/Franklin Street walking distance from campus but there is much more, by car, further down both sides of Franklin (toward Carrboro or Durham). There are several major retail chains towards Durham - particularly Bed Bath & Beyond (for linens, kitchen tools, and other household) as well as Kohl's for clothing etc. They are both well priced stores and are near a cluster of more shopping. Also abt 30 minutes away is Southpoint Mall - big mall with other shops surrounding it - located off Interstate 40. You will pass the mall on your way from RDU to Chapel Hill - Fayetteville Street exit. So Mom to Mom - that's my advice. Oh and forget the Siena Hotel as I recommended above. I love it. My 22 yr old son was appalled that I mentioned it - BORING, UGH, who would want to stay there - in other words, not your son either!!! All the best, Maxine
