We really enjoyed how the self guided tour was set up. There were IPods set up throughout the house to give information about the various rooms. It must have been amazing to see this house out here when it was first built, since there wasn't much here other than the lighthouse next door. It was also amazing to see the... More

Great story of the President of Pennsylvania Railroad and inventor of the Pullman railway car. Interesting history, beautiful home and for hunters a dream home of hunting. Well preserved, updated and maintained. There is an entry fee.

Well-restored 1920s duck hunting lodge on the north end of the island. Great way to take a break from the beach, learn about the history of the area, and enjoy one of the best settings in the Outer Banks. Tour is well-organized, with tablets in each room that play an audio description, allowing you to go at your own pace.... More

We relly enjoyed the house tour. It began with a short talk by one of the guides, and each stop had a recording to play explaining the history of the house. Able to tour at your own pace.

The four of us walked around the area after climbing the lighthouse. The area was well kept and we enjoyed the time spent.

Historic home was one of the first in the area. Imported massive building supplies and furnishings from Europe and other places. They have recorded guided tours via IPods, of which I'm not usually fan, but these were amazingly informative.

The house is huge and has a very storied history with a lot of military value over the years. The park is lighted and has walking paths along the bay and a pedestrian bridge that crosses an inlet. Walked there 6 or 7 times while we were In corolla

The Whalehead Inn takes about an hour to tour - with self guidance - and is truly an eye opener to the wealth of the 20's. It's definitely a worthwhile visit!
