We had a very educational tour and got to climb to the top and see the Sound from the light tower. My daughters enjoyed seeing all the historical items!

Happy you enjoyed the 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse! Make sure you visit the James Iredell House and the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse while you’re in town and enjoy your stay in Edenton!

We walked over after dinner, so it was closed. However, you can walk up to it, sit on the benches to watch the sunset and see most everything through the windows. Good interpretive signs. We didn't see any spiders like one reviewer.

We started out Nicholas Sparks NC Coastal Tour in Edenton. The lighthouse was beautiful but very disappointed it was closed on Monday, our only day in town. Free parking nearby which was perfect as we walked around town before heading to our next town.

Beautiful restoration, however, be aware that there are spiders around the building. We went at dusk and enjoyed peeking through the windows.

Now gracing the Edenton waterfront is the circa 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse, the last survivor of fifteen such screw-pile light stations that once illuminated North Carolina’s inland waterways. Originally positioned in the Albemarle Sound to mark the entrance to the Roanoke River near Plymouth, the...More

This lighthouse was a guide, as are all lighthouses. But since it was for river traffic, it did not have to be high and visible for miles. So a different construction, but still a guiding light.

Much smaller and shorter than the ones we’re used to on the outer banks, but quite cute - even had a Christmas tree! Had a chain blocking the walkway so we could not get up close.
