This area was orginally developed because of transportation needs. WE are at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. This museum tells that key to our history plus lots of interesting tidbits, like a 1950's gas station, info on hotels - steam boat travel, etc.

This was a quaint museum with really nice history about Fayetteville. I was impressed! The staff was very courteous! I would not suggest bringing small children because it's just not on their level.

We loved this museum--not so much be aisle of its main area but because of the annex. The docent In the main area was just behind the desk. But at the annex, the man there was wonderful and interacted with my kids!!!!

My husband and I enjoyed a few hours respite from the heat in this quaint local museum. It's a little confusing to find the side entrance and if it were not for cars in the lot the many locked doors would make the building to appear to be closed. Don't miss the upstairs displays there was lots of interesting civil... More

This museum is chock full of history. There was a lot of information about the Marquis de Lafayette, which I found particularly interesting. There were a lot of quality pieces throughout the museum. Everything from the American Revolution to World War II. It was also nice to see photos from what Fayetteville used to look like.

The transportation museum traces how people traveled before electric cars. It is small and quaint but filled with history inside. Outside, if you come on Wednesdays or Saturdays they have a market where you can buy produce and Saturdays, a variety of other goods from candles to soaps. Only happens until 1:00pm. Otherwise, the Museum is a perfect way to... More

Located in an old train station, this museum walks the patron through the history of transportation in this region. I found the museum to be well done. Most everything was labelled well and the 'traffic' flowed well through the museums. The front desk ladies were not overly friendly.....but the older gentleman in the annex was fabulous!!!

This museum focuses primarily on the development of river and rail transportation in the Fayetteville area. The river transportation part was most informative with a lot of information about the various types of vessels that carried agricultural and forestry products to Wilmington for shipment around the world, and returned to Fayetteville with products needed by those living in the internal... This is not a large museum but it is worth the visit. I especially like to visit when it is hosting the local farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
