Fun!

We had fun looking for rubies and sapphires. It's a lot of work to get them gems cleaned. It is distressing to sit and keep looking for a clunker. If you can't climb the stairs... read more

We have visited many of the Ruby mines in the area and by far we have more fun and enjoyment at Sheffield than any of the others, friendly staff and a quiet decent location.

We drove up to the mine during the week. Not so easy to find. But the roadway took us by some breath taking venues and quaint towns. I love looking at old farms. The price of admission was $20.00 each which comes with 3 buckets of dirt. They instruct you how to "was the dirt" and how to spot rubies.... More

We had fun looking for rubies and sapphires. It's a lot of work to get them gems cleaned. It is distressing to sit and keep looking for a clunker. If you can't climb the stairs they will send a golf cart to pick you up so no one will miss out on the fun!

I found a 47 carat ruby and lots of small native rubies and sapphires. Well worth the trip. I love this mine, even if it is a bit rustic.

This is a great mine to hunt for rubies and sapphires. The dirt comes straight out of the mountain side. There is something about sitting at a flume scrubbing rocks that is relaxing. Your chances of finding a Ruby are great at this mine. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Don't wear your good clothes here, because the dirt from... More

Too bad the previous reviewers' friends didn't tell him/her how to get help to get down to the mine. Sorry for your disappointment, you should give them a second chance. We always have a good time and we've been going to Sheffield for several years. The following I copied and pasted from the faq section from the sheffieldmine.com website: I'm... More

We stopped at the Sheffield Mine on the recommendation I'd some friends. It's probably a very nice place but I took one look at the very long staircase and decided my knees were not up to it. I'm sorry we missed out since it was recommended. If you've got good knees, stop by!

It was a great day for grandparents & our 9 year old granddaughter. The price was right and the 2 gentlemen on duty were most helpful and funny. We took our lunch so we worked a while ate lunch and then went back to work. We found a lot of gems. I had a happy granddaughter & that makes happy... More

We had an amazing time gem mining here. It was $20/person, which gave us 3 buckets each. We each did 2 natives and 1 rainbow. The natives take longer because rubies aren't easy to spot in their natural form. The rainbow buckets include colorful gems from Brazil that are pretty easy to recognize, so don't take long at all. We... More
