My folks live in the Franklin area and every summer when we visit we try and get the kids out to play in the NC dirt at a local mine. Sheffields has been a favorite of ours for close to 20 years and never dissappoints the kids. Whether you chose the Rainbow buckets or native buckets there is always fun... More

We had a great time searching for hidden treasures! We found over 60 carats of rubies in the native buckets. We also sifted through rainbow buckets and found all sorts of interesting stone and minerals. I can't remember when I was so dirty and didn't care a bit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great way to spend... More

My wife and I went simply off the ratings on TripAdvisor and I must say they were dead on. We had a wonderful time it's 15$ a person for 2 buckets that take about 2 hours alone and you can get 2 more buckets for another $5. We couldn't have been happier, the help was top notch and they found... More

staff was outstanding on both introduction and help finding "RUBIES". Worth the money spent. We found two squeiker's that were 18kts and seven 9 to 4kts. 30+ smaller rubies. The boys ages 15 and 8 were a handful asking questions and got very nice gems in the rainbow buckets. They also found very nice emeralds in the bucket that kept... More

The only 'mining' we'd done in the past was at a couple of roadside touristy places with salted buckets. We wanted a different experience this time and considered Mason's, but it was on a Sunday that was supposed to rain later, so instead of paying for a day we decided to head to Sheffield's. We got there right after they... More

This is not the touristy type of gem mine, there is no lapidary on site, and the most basic of bathrooms (only hand sanitizer, no sink and faucet). The admission ($15.00) included two buckets of earth; 2 buckets of native dirt, 2 buckets of salted dirt or one of each. I went with a dear friend and we each went... More

Not a touristy, side-of-the-road type of attraction. We got dirty, and enjoyed it! Not much luck this time, but will go back again!

OK first off let me tell you all out there that this is a great place to look for natural gem's.. I see a lot of negative comments from folk who I think are from other mines in the area and just trying to aim business there way,..To all other negative comments out there, let's get one thing clear, this...
