On our way to Drum Castle we decided to try and seek out another stone circle in Aberdeenshire; Cullerlie Stone Circle. The day before, after many attempts we finally found the Tomnaverie Stone Circle. Cullerlie Stone Circle was a wee bit easier to find and...More

This is an easy stop off en route to Drum Castle. Parking is in a lay-by along the side of the road and then just a short walk to the stone circle. The circle is within in a well kept area along side some farm...More

It’s ok. It’s on the way to Drum Castle so it’s easy to follow that sign. It’s set amongst a farms field with cows and their home.

A peaceful spot as a local lady was there reading a book on a sunny day. Located adjacent to someone's farmland alongside the road. Easy to spot as there is a location sign.

I love stone circles, so I was excited to find this one. It's a bit hard to find out about, but once you have it on the map, it was easy enough to get there.

Seems that with every intentional turn or direction we go, we repeatedly come across unexpected bits of history and this one is no exception - we drove past, then returned to learn about this ancient place. Interesting.

It took a few passes to find the marker (Would be great if it were easier to spot from the road), but I'm glad we stopped. It only takes a minute to walk to the site and you are standing on 2500+ years of history....More

It was a magical place which we stumbled upon without direction or GPS. Imagine our excitement when we seen the stones protruding from the earth. It was great to see the depth of Scottish history not always linked to royalty and castles.

Having passed the road for this stone circle hundreds of time I decided to have a wee look. Being looked after by Historic Scotland does mean that the grounds & grass are always well maintained but this does give a feeling that the stone circle...More
