Go in the summer, not much to see in winter

I'm sure in summer it's very impressive and it's cool to drive behind it (the reason I'm giving it a 4). In the winter it isn't very impressive and for understandable reasons. No charge. It's right off the highway. The first of 3 waterfalls in a sequence on US 64. When it's in full force im sure it's awesome for... More

Quick to drive to in the highlands, great picture opportunity! May be just a trickle if there hasn't been much rain.

Probably neat to see when there is plenty of water, but otherwise, a major letdown. Granted, we were there during a dry spell, but other falls in the area still had water. This was just a trickle, literally. VERY accessible (a turn-out from U.S. 64 actually goes under it, but I’m not sure it’s ever open anymore) and worth seeing... More

Neat little water fall you can drive behind now. This a regular on our trip up to the area, for years we drove behind the fall, then for some year it was officially closed. One year we came the reason it had been closed was weighing down on the road. Now it's been reopened.

During this drought (November '16) there was precious little water coming over the falls. Nothing like the picture. Also, there was NO car access. EASY EASY to get to. Obviously you don't even have to get OUT of the car!

We were in Highlands North Carolina this past Sunday just to enjoy the town for the day , if you were wanting to visit Highlands right now I would honestly say hold off for another month because the wildfires in Jackson County made it the air quality very low and dangerous for people with lung problems or asthma. Anyways we... More

As others on here have said, the drought has really affected this place. I guess, in that regards, it serves as a visual reminder for me to do my best to take care of the environment. It is still pretty awesome that there is a little cave on the side of the road.

Less than normal rainfall did not provide any show. I'm sure that normal precipitation allows the falls to flow.

This fall is nothing more than a trickle due to the drought...usually prettier in the spring. They have both sides of the road that goes under it blocked off.

Visited this place as a kid. When there is not an extreme drought in place, I'm sure it's pretty. This time only a trickle was coming over the falls. Will visit again when it's not so dry.
