Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It would be nice if there was access to a better View of the falls and a walking trial to access the falls. The view point only has parking for 3 cars and very dangerous to park. Narrow 2 way winding roads with large trucks passing.

Beautiful waterfall and scenery. You have to exercise caution as cars drive around tight mountain curves and making quick pull-offs. Wouldn't take my kids back again. There are safer waterfalls that you can actually view closer.

From Franklin, NC, take US Hwy 64 East toward Highlands, NC. The Hwy is very curvy in the area. You will pass the Cullasaja Gorge sign. The car's passenger will see the big falls down on the right. The "parking area" is a wide spot fitting 3 cars. The falls trail is a National Forest 4 x4 post sigh which is a walk on the Hwy from parking area. Past the "parking area", there is another 3 car wide spot in which there is a unmark trail to the river. It is a beautiful spot. Some directions says there is a bathroom. That is wrong!

Cullasaja Falls is the last waterfall on the Cullasaja River as it winds through the gorge on US-64, roughly half way between Highlands and Franklin. It's a beautiful 250-foot waterfall. Unfortunately, there isn't really a good way to view the falls. The viewing area is located on a treacherous stretch of narrow winding highway with no safe spot to stop and enjoy the view. It's possible to see the falls from the road while driving. But to stop and see the falls, extreme caution must be used to avoid a serious traffic accident. A small pulloff is located on the side of the road, but there's only room for a car or two. If coming from Highlands on US-64 west, the pulloff will be on the left side of the road. Rather than trying to cross traffic in the middle of a narrow curve, drive past the pulloff, make a U-turn and the pulloff will be on the right side of the road. Make sure that your car is completely off the road! This is a US highway and tractor trailers drive this stretch of road. If your car is parked in the road, it may cause a deadly collision. From this pulloff, there are decent views of the falls. The trees kind of block the lower portion of the falls. There is also a very steep trail leading down to the base. The trail is short, but extremely steep. If the trail is wet, it will be impossible to get back up so avoid going down to the base. You can only see the lower portion of the falls from here anyway. So, Cullasaja Falls is definitely worth a quick stop. Just use care and common sense to avoid an accident.

We missed this the first time by, I’m glad we went back the next morning! There’s wasn’t really a way to walk down, so we got some great pictures and moved on.

This is one of many picturesque falls along the Cullasaja River gorge, but unfortunately seeing them can be risky and downright dangerous – not only from falling over the falls, but from the traffic rushing by behind you on the narrow road. Route 64 is narrow, often without a berm, and there are very few pull-offs along the windy stretch beside the rushing, scenic river. A visit early in the morning when traffic may be lighter improves your chances of finding a spot to pull off for a few minutes and gaze at the churning water. There are a few places where undeveloped, rocky paths lead closer to the water, but it would be easy to slip and fall – especially if the ground and rocks are wet. Be warned.

Pull off the side of the road in a wide spot and look around to see if you are in the right spot. After you find the spot crawl over the rail and down the hill to get a good vie.

We stopped here to view the Cullasaja Falls and it was simply breathtaking. The pull off can be dangerous and there’s only room for maybe 4 cars at the most. We were lucky enough to get a spot to view this beauty. Be very careful parking and getting out of car, it’s a VERY narrow space, but still worth the effort.

One of the prettiest waterfalls I know. I love to make the 64East drive and stop here, Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and then on to Cashiers for Whitewater Falls - a great day trip!

Enjoyed all the falls along highway 64. It’s a beautiful drive but it’s a very curvy road. If that bothers you, you won’t enjoy it. The road is two lanes but narrow.
