Nature lovers dream come true. 360 degree view of endless mountains. I experienced this as part of a section hike of the Appalachian Trail. It is a hard climb but worth every step. Did not know that it is not legal to camp on Max...More

Camped our first night out of Hot Springs here. Just beautiful. There were families and couples and hikers all up there for the sunset. We were there on Mothers Day, couldn't ask for a more perfect place.

This is a one of a kind view. The drive is a bit curvy through the mountains but well worth the surprise once you reach the top of the bald. There's a driveway at the entrance to the trail. It's a short 10 minute hike...More

It was a huffing and puffing hike up, but wow, the view was absolutely worth every step! And pretty cool to say we hiked on the AT!

We drove to the parking area which had lots of winding gravel roads. When we arrived it was about to rain so we had to rush to the top. When we got to the top it was an amazing view.

Words cannot describe the beauty. So I will just say you have to go sometime. I recommend watching the sunset over the Smoky Mountains.

This bald has amazing 360 degree views of mountains in all directions. A short hike from the parking lot with plenty of room in top. And the Appalachian Trail passes over the top.

Well worth the half mile hike up to the top from the parking on Max Patch Road for great 100-mile views but we'd recommend driving there from the North Carolina side. That only involves a couple of mile of easy mettled (gravel) road on NC1182....More

I am amazed of how few people come to this wonderful spot to see all around. It is the highest mountain in the area.

It's a short, gentle walk from the parking lot to the top of Max Patch. The stars are brilliant at night, and the view is breathtaking during the day. Plan to sit a while and enjoy the peace and quiet.

There was several people camping at the top of max patch. you just make your own campsite I guess on top. you will need to pack everything you need. Some one had took a small folding table. I guess there was 8 or more... More

Coming from Knoxville, taking i-40, getting off at the Harmon Den Exit, can someone provide detailed directions as well as length of each section of the drive after getting off at Exit 7? I have been looking at conflicting internet website directions and many reviews warning of the "confusing, not-well-marked terrible drive up"... Need some clarification. Thanks

Go left off the exit till the road ends. Take another left max patch is on the right after a mile or two. The parking area is small, it's marked tho. You won't be able to miss the bald on the right, its massive.

We think so....we saw dogs they are allowed on the AT... we don't recall about bikes... if you go to the AT web site.... it will probably give you all the information you need/want.
