We dropped by when a dig of the Pictish fort was taking place and when a whale and porpoise watch was on. So we got lucky. The little visitor centre is informative and helpful. No whales but we saw a meadow pit and linnets

If one could put a viewpoint in the most lucrative place, fill it with enthusiastic, knowledgeable volunteers and a plethora of information about the surrounding area and wildlife this would be it. The saying the best things come in small packages was made for this.
