- Chris JTaylorsville, North Carolina32 contributionsMotorcycle Trip to Maggie ValleyMy wife and I an another couple rode to Maggie Valley from Taylorsville, NC for a couple days ride in the mountains. We decided to stop and visit Wheels Through Time. Some of us had visited previously and others had not. It’s always a great place to visit to learn about the history and to just be amazed how they have collected and retained such a great inventory of bikes. Amazingly, their always so knowledgeable about each one and willing to discuss where it came from and to also crank it for you. I had the pleasure to meet Dale, the founder a couple times before his passing, and I’m thankful for what he created and the legacy he has built. Thankfully he passed that knowledge on and this is something that can be here for future generations. Well worth the time to visit. - IstagerChester, Virginia16 contributionsMust See for Motorcycle EnthusiastIt will take some time to go through this museum, it is jam full of memories. My husband enjoyed it more than I did, but this trip was all about him and what he wanted to do. This was the reason we visited Maggie Valley. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, this is a must visit if in the area.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023

- GingerGoodnessFlorida55 contributionsPretty excellentMust see if you’re into vintage motorcycles. The Walksler family is beyond friendly and nice! My husband was awestruck when he met Matt. We spent about three hours here on a rainy Monday. If you’re in a RV, park near the road in the overflow lot. The museum is clean and easy to navigate.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
- Susan W33 contributionsMotorcycle ❤️My husband has always wanted to come here so we met up with some friends and there we were! It is an absolutely awesome museum steeped in motorcycle history and a tribute to the founder and his family. What a treasure trove of endless wonders! The extensive collection of motorcycles, advertisements, and memorabilia truly made us feel like we were traveling through time. There’s so much to see and absorb that it’s best to spread the visit over a couple of days to fully appreciate everything.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 July 2024
- Urooj Z2 contributionsHidden gem!Wonderful museum. True hidden gem! We stopped here by chance on the drive down from visiting Soco Falls and Mingo Falls, and were so grateful that we did! A must see for enthusiasts and novices both! Andy, one of the people who works there was so kind and helpful! He is a walking encyclopedia of motorcycles. We loved every moment we spent here ❤️Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 August 2024

This is a really awesome place. We visited in September and the weather was rainy but not too cold. It is a really cool motorcycle museum that takes you back through time with motorcycles from older years. The place is huge and lots of stuff to take in. Plan for a full day. They also auction off a motorcycle each year.

We took a trip for the weekend to the Asheville area. We decided we wanted to take a ride to Cherokee and on the way, we passed a sign for this museum. My husband noticed it and said that he used to watch the show (What's in the Barn) and would love to see the museum. Naturally, we had to stop and visit.
I have to be honest. I am not a motorcycle buff by any means and neither is my husband. However, he was a fan of the show, seemed to know a lot about it and about the owner and kept saying how he appreciates what he does. Even though this is not really "my thing" I had a good time. The place is well laid out and there was so much to see. As others have said, even if you are not really into motorcycles, there is a lot of history going on here. There were so many great photos and artifacts from the past to browse through. They even had some old cars and that was a plus because my husband IS a huge car buff.
We had to the chance to enter a raffle, for a fee, and place our ticket in their "wishing well". I thought that was cute. The admission was $15 each. Everyone was friendly. They had a nice little gift shop too. There are other things to see in the area as well so it is worth a visit if you ever find yourself near here.

Great museum so much to see, so much history! What a great place Dale built and son is carrying on. The volunteers recounting all the history and answering questions is priceless. Thank you to everyone carrying on Dale's legacy. God bless.

This is a must see if you are in the area. The museum has an impressive collection of motorcycles, cars, memorabilia, pictures and posters, and beautiful antique furniture throughout, used as displays. Even those who are not “gear heads” will be in awe of the extensiveness of the collection, which is clearly well cared for.

Why 1 star? This is a wonderful museum, but the exhaust and gas fumes were so bad we had to leave after 15 minutes. All 4 of us felt ill. 2 of us were motorcycle enthusiasts and had worked in many garages, none with fumes like this.
We commented to the person behind the front counter & the response was, “It’s always like this.” I had visited a couple of years ago with our grandchildren and spent a hour in the museum & there were no fumes. They have ventilation fans, but none were turned on.
This place is under new management and sadly it shows. This place is a health risk.

There is no doubt that this is a museum of operational motor vehicles. 95% of the many 2, 3 and 4-wheeled vehicles are operational. There was a heavy smell of gas and oil in the building on the rainy day we visited. My wife sat outside after a while because she couldn't handle the smell. I was happy when a service door was opened and the ventilation improved.
We came in a small camper van which we parked in the lot before the bridge that leads to the museum. Another RV was there, a pick-up and teardrop trailer.
If you are a (gas) motor vehicle enthusiast, this should be on your radar. There are quite a few restored and unrestored historical motorcycles here.

We came the last weekend of the season. There were SO many people at the museum. We were still able to see everything though. If you like motorcycle history and appreciate when not all the things are shiny and restored to perfection then this museum is worth the visit. There is a lot of see and a small gift shop. Ventilation was fine for us and the temperature was comfortable.

If you love American motorcycles, this is a must go! The fact that every one of them will start, is remarkable. There are bikes everywhere in this museum. It’s so comfortable walking through too. You are encouraged to ask questions and enjoy at your own pace. They started up 2 bikes while we were there, just so you could fully enjoy the sounds and smells of history. We met one of Dale’s sons as we were leaving. He couldn’t have been any nicer to talk with and was so genuine (shaking all of our hands) when he asked us to come back and visit. Our son, that is 17, rides and had a great time hearing the history of the 4 cylinder engine on the Indian and why it ended being used. Very knowledgeable staff! Definitely will go back.

Hi, My husband and I are coming to Maggie Valley for our 56th anniversary this weekend. We're in our 70's and we've been very careful not to get exposed to Covid 19.
I was wondering if you're operating on a normal schedule and what you're doing to protect your visitors.
Thank you very much,
J. Zimmer

Does wheels through time allow SERVICE ANIMALS?

I would think so. I would think the owner Dale would not have objections at all.

The site says you are closed. Do u open this week?
Written 29 December 2017
I fo believe they are closed for the season. Most businesses/restaurants close down for the winter in Maggie Valley.will re-open in the spring.
Written 30 December 2017
Others have answered this correctly but go to their website. If your into motorcycles particularly old ones allow a minimum of an hour. Some of the hosts stories are very interesting in and of themselves.
Written 11 October 2017
How long should we allow to visit this museum? Would 5 hours be too long?
Written 24 March 2016
It really depends on you and your interest in motorcycles but scooters aren't the only thing there. Basically anything you could strap a motorcycle engine in and not just Harley's. There are a few cars and some weird stuff. 2-4 hours safely and you can take all the pictures you want. Dale or his son might even crank on up and ride it around the museum.

As the previous poster said: open April 2 - Nov. 30. But also visit their website for a lot of information and other cool stuff.
