If you are expecting Vail, Breckinridge, etc. you will be very disappointed. If you are expecting a fun day on minimal slopes/manufactured snow (like I was), you will have a great time. All the employees were very courteous. For skiing in the south, it was a lot of fun. The only negative is the price. The lift ticket is way... More

Obviously the snow quality varies year to year, but for small kids this is a good drivable option. It would probably be better though if you could stay on the mountain as the logistics with small kids is challenging. We always brought grandparents to help watch and transport kids as you sort of need an extra set of hands since... More

We have been going for years and this year we have been twice. Just got back. There were not a lot of trails open and the price was not reduced... which it should have been. There were several grassy spots. I would assume they will have to be closing soon. Remember snow skiing is not something to be taken lightly.... More

Let's be realistic here. In less than 3 hours from Atlanta, you can come get a quick ski fix. Those looking for a luxurious ski vacation need not apply. Those looking to strap on some skis or a snowboard for the day, come on. Here's a pro tip...rent your gear and purchase lift tickets from the Cataloochee ski store on... More

If not for the seeming ubiquitous Ski Patrol personnel all over the mountain, I would have given Cataloochee one star. Let me start off with the cost. I spent nearly $250 for me and my two young children to ski. (I brought my own gear). This would be par for the course at a swanky Colorado resort. Unfortunately, Cataloochee fails... More

Took my son snowboarding. He had a blast. The lodge is uncomfortable, crowded and smelly. The food is mediocre and expensive (but that's expected from any "resort") I recommend renting your equipment in Maggie Valley and bringing it up with you. Much less hassle that way. Everyone was friendly and helpful. My son took a bad tumble and ski patrol... More

It took us about 2 hours to buy lift tickets in one line, rent boots in another line and then go outside to another building to rent skis. The conditions were not good because it was warm but we had fun and the lines at the chairlifts moved quickly.

This is one of the better NC ski resorts I've visited. Staff was friendly and for most of the day, great snow with one exception. The Lower Omigosh blue trail had ice everywhere. It appeared one person even got hurt. It's a shame because it was a blue run I could ski and also due to drought, fewer than normal... More
