This ferry ride first of all is FREE. Takes around 45 minutes and you will see nice views or Hatteras Island, Ocracoke Island, and Portsmouth Island. While on the ferry run by the Coast Guard, you can get the history first hand about the area....More

I could not find a listing for the ferry ride to Ocracoke Island, so this will suffice. The free car ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke is a great activity; almost as good as the free Staten Island ferry in New York. First, it is mainly...More

Worth a quick check out if you are visiting for the first time. This is where you get your beach access permits. Park staff are nice, and they offer programs.

Great people here. Services for your departure and return from the ferry ride. The staff on our ferry was the best I have experienced in a while!

Nice visitor center with everything you need before getting on the ferry to Cedar Island. The ferry itself was enjoyable and doesn't even seem like it takes 2 hours to ride.

If you want to know about the island, you must stop here. The staff is great, the history compelling, and the sense of time and place well worth it.

Compared to other NPS visitor centers this one is a bit smaller. We enjoyed the ranger presentation about the history of the island though it was a bit hard to follow at times. We learned lots that we would have never known. The ranger presentations...More

No ferry involved coming from the mainland. Only time you would need to catch a ferry is if you were coming from Ocracoke way to the South.
