We offer Kayaking and Gem Mining on the Little Tennessee River in the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina. Come and see nature at her best as the river takes you through the mountains and pasture lands. Our beautiful scenic trips are self-guided & guided tours are available. The trip takes approx. 2 1/2-3 hours. Get your Gem Treasure bucket and pan at our flume or take you bucket and pan the old fashion way in the river. We now offer Indian Pottery Tours. Search for Indian pottery as you kayak. This tour is approx. 6 hrs and reservation is required. We are a hidden treasure in the mountains. Family fun for all ages.

We went with our own kayak. They were very helpful with launching the kayak and directions for the trip. The actual trip down the river was easy paddling and interesting as many obstacles to avoid!

We are third time return visitors. The owners are excellent teachers and know their gems. Fun experience for our five grandchildren. It's a little back yard property operation but that is what "Primitive Outback" is all about..... nothing fancy. Loved it!!

I took my girlfriend, a noob to the outdoors, on this trip in lieu of whitewater kayaking or rafting. I was a bit concerned about her getting her own kayak and handling all the obstacles well. 20 minutes in, we were rolling with it. The...More
