Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Longting Park is scenic, and a nice place for a relaxing walk. It contains mostly replicas of historical structures, rather than ancient ones.

Kaifeng, in Henan Province, Central China is an amazing place to visit. Don't try to rush around here in just a couple of days, there is far too much to see. Beware of the very expensive theme park and don't be fooled by its ancient appearance.
The rest of the city is wonderful. The people are friendly and extremely helpful. We paid just 50RMB (approx. $7.5) for the whole day, for a three wheeled taxi whose driver was full of useful information. Each morning he collected us from our hotel at 8am and drove us to site after site. While we wondered around he waited outside. At some of the historical sites he in came with us (He had a special pass) and acted as our guide. No, he didn't speak English, but luckily my travel partner is Chinese. For me the entire trip was a highlight.
If I had to single out one place in particular it would be Longting Park (Dragon Park). The buildings, like all historical buildings in China, have been carefully and accurately restored. Some are as old as 711AD and some sites date back as far as 250BC. I thought it was better than the Forbidden City in Beijing, simply because it is less commercial, OH, and there were fewer people. Every Historical site in Kaifeng is worth a visit, but whatever you do; don't miss Longting Park or the Iron Pagoda, a 55M high 13 storey structure that dates back to 1069. You can climb to the top, but be warned, it is not for the feint hearted or weak legged. The steps inside are very narrow and some are quite high. In fact going up was not too bad, but coming down is a strain on your knees.
What more could I say? Just go there and see for yourself!
I would be happy to give you more details.

Hello hello, sorry to break some hearts but this place isn't actually real or built on top of anything real. The whole area broke a guiness world record for the largest man made, built themed park (there are no rollercoasters). This is part of the millenium Park and costs around 40 cny to get in. Each section costs various amounts. I suggest to go look at it because it's stunning from the outside but not necessary to go in, if you want to watch a show, I suggest the park next door. I wouldn't suggest the one furthest away, due to the zoo inside and the cruelty to the animals, although the shows themselves are very good. The further park is suited for young children, the middle for all ages and this one for the elder generation to stroll around and enjoy the view, have a picnic and go on the boat.

Kiafeng was the capital of six dynasties in the past , second only to Xi'an. It has many ancient sites and stories awaiting foreign tourists to explore.
Dragon Pavillion Park was built on an ancient site where past emperors lived and conducted its official meetings more than a thousand years ago.
This park is very huge , with typical Chinese landscape of pavilions , lakes and gardens and require lots of walking. The main attraction here is the restored chamber where past emperors handled country's affairs. It is a must see site here. The best time to visit is in November during the annual chrysanthemum (city flower) fair. Lot of colours and display but also lots of crowd.

It's a big and good-looking park in the middle of town. Lots of people taking pictures in front of the park entrance. You could save the 60 or 70 rmb fee by walking along the outside of the park to get an idea of it but you wont be able to climb up to the tallest building for a view. As I mentioned in the title, the pollution is noticable so the stroll wont be as nice as you expect. The sky is grey (not grey from overcast weather either) unlike the pics you see with blue skies. Worth seeing if you are in the area.

This is the forbidden city just like people go to in Beijing, but to me this is severely under appreciated. Why? This was Home to seven emperors and six dynasties, and at one point the largest and richest city in the world.
Now you can take boats around to all of the sites. At night the boats around here are running and you can see the lights all over. Great place to see.

Long Ting is an OK park with a half-decent reconstruction of a royal palace building. The view from the top of the Dragon Pavilion is quite good, but what you see is the new town buildings and the two or three reconstruction amusement parks that fill this area. There is nothing authentic here, but you get a basic idea of what Kaifeng may have looked like in the past.
I visited during the chrysanthemum festival, so the flowers were beautiful, but I would have been very annoyed at paying 70 RMB if it was not the festival, because there would have been a lot less to see in the park.

This is a rebuilt from a couple hundred years ago (the original is like a 1000 years old). But it is a nice location to visit, with lakes around it.

You can walk to this from the Drum tower in about 15 minutes, failing that a taxi is about 6 Rmb.
The main feature is the tower which is approached across a bridge, (tickiet office before the bridge). Tickets are 40Rmb half price for 60-69, 70+ free. Students get have price with a recognised ID.
The pavilion has about 55 steep steps to navigate and a secondary path down on one side, ( maybe both). Before you get to the tower there is an interesting model of the original layout, this clearly shows the way the water was used to create a moat. Now day it forms a series of lakes both inside and adjacent to the park. On the model, presumably to scale it shows the proximity of the Iron pagoda as quite close. However once you go up onto the pavilion you can see the pagoda is at least a kilometre away. It kind of brings home the sheer scale of things originally.
Do take the time to walk the grounds and explore, the plum orchard is a delight as our the other paths etc. One of the neat tricks they employ is to use banks of potted plants so there should always be colour in the gardens. As if June 2018 some of the area has been closed for work.
From the North east side you can access through to a second park area called Tian Bo Yang Mansion, at a further fee of 40rmb. Note once you pass through you cannot get back unless you pay again because there is a second entrance to Tian Bo Yang and they cannot know who came from which entrance.
Entering Tian Bo Yang on the right there is a large open air performance area with seats, water and lighting. Once you get past that the buildings are both quite and interesting all be it over populated with sales points . DO NOT expect to walk down into the next adjacent park area. To do that you must exit through the other gate and then pay a further fee.
