I have taken my class of 11-12 year olds to the museum on numerous occasions. Whilst the displays (and squid) are rather dated, the kids yield to the enthusiastic and informative people that patiently guide us around.

Spend a long or a short time, but you can spend a lot of time. Volunteers helpful, and the history is amazing, and it is still growing, best six bucks you could spend

The museum has an eclectic and expanding range of exhibits. Don't expect too much from the "George the giant squid" exhibit, but good for a country town museum.

I have been here many years ago and enjoyed it then and some 30 years later still enjoyed it. Highly recommend 2 hours at least if you read all the articles.
