This tour was a very informative 2.5hrs walk through the grounds and buildings. The history of this place is incredible and it’s a shame that the government is letting it rot. Thank goodness for historical society’s otherwise places like this would disappear forever. Well worth...More

Even though the buildings need a lot of maintenance (thats another story) none the less the 2 hour tour took us around this vast facility and provided an insight into society's and medical attitudes to mental health, not just 100 years ago but as recent...More

We did a day tour here and after doing the ghost tour the previous night it was fantastic to get a different prospective from a f email point of view. The history of this place is both saddening and happy

We did the 2 hour day tour on a Sunday. Our guide was Lyn. She was very knowledgeable and a great guide. I loved seeing all of the old rooms, kitchens and abandoned hallways. Pretty eerie. Highly recommend for history buffs!

I did the 2 hr day tour run by lantern ghost tours and there was a lot of historic information which was just a bit dry for me (but that's probably a personal preference). It was however very informative and based in facts with many...More

This tour was an amazing way for us to experience the beauty of the buildings and surrounds for what would have been a very sad existence for its patients. The tour guides were friendly and informative and we learnt so much about how lacking the...More

We visited both J Ward and Araradle and were lucky enough to have John on both tours, ablely assited at the asylum with Lyn who did a great job. We learnt so much of the history of both places.

My daughter and I attended the 2 hour night ghost tour last night, and from start to finish it was fabulous. We were greeted by our guide, The Matron at the door, whose knowledge, theatrics, and stories amazed us. An amazing building with a horrific...More

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the place is so interesting! It's such a massive site with amazing buildings from 1880 through to buildings from the 70 and 80's! Whilst it was a sad beginning it seemed quite nice towards the end! A shame...More

Book through friends of J Ward. They do Wednesday tour. They do it for the love of Ararat and are rather cheaper than eerie but have a more personal touch. The tours are often conducted by the people who actually worked at... More
