We did the guided tour and were amazed a place like this existed. It's eerie and really was a terrible place filled with mainly the criminally insane. The guide was lovely and had a connection to the place as she had actually worked there for a small while so she was full of stories and extra info. Only $15 per... More

The tours go regularly so it easy to find a time that best works with other plans. Very reasonably priced for the tour. The whole complex was well maintained so no issues with hazards or dirty etc. we were the only people on the tour at the time. Guide was extreme knowledgable and gave us lots of info on the... More

Tour took around 1.5 hours and the site was very interesting. Both a previous prison and then a place where the criminally insane were kept as the J Ward of Anadale Asylum. Great old building, with an interesting history both as a prison (where three inmates were hanged) and as an Asylum for the criminally insane. The kitchen and bathroom... More

On arriving spend a few minutes to take in the beautifully maintained gardens. Don was a wealth of information. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on that tour so we were able to ask lots of questions which Don knew all the answers. It is a fascinating tour with a very sad video at the completion of... We went on the day tour of J-ward with Geoff as our tour guide. It was very informative and interesting. We got to walk around all the buildings and grounds with Geoff telling us the history of the place. Tour is based mainly on when it was a lunatic asylum but also goes into when it was a jail. Tour... From the minute you arrive the hostess sets the scene. You will love the history and not one room will disappoint. Wear flat shoes or runners as you will need to trudge down a hill in the dark to the morgue. There is a lot of stair climbing and descending over the two hours that the tour is taken but... More

Fabulous value for money, $15 a person and our tour went for 2 hours. The guide asked at the start if anyone was in a hurry so there option to leave early but it was so engaging and interesting we didn't even realise it took that long

Sensational tour, run by highly knowledgeable and engaging volunteers. Where would we be without volunteers. It takes an hour, you could talk about it for hours. There is even the opportunity to put n a straight jacket. Fortunately my husband let me out. Go and see J Ward, you won't regret it. The complete tour takes an hour and tea... More

Punctual, friendly, informative. Richard gave us a wonderful tour full of stories and information. It is one of the best tours we have been on. It felt really creepy down in the kitchen and Richard's murder stories didn't help ally our fears. The complex is well maintained and enough information is supplied with exhibits. The DVD presentation at the end... More
