Train Station Slyudyanka Russia.
Apr 2019 • Solo
This is but another in a series of Train / Railway Stations (Abakan/Krasnoyarsk/Novosibirsk/Mariinsk/Tayshet/Irkutsk) that I have used here in Russia Siberia. It is the smallest station so far but this fits right in with the small size of Slyudyanka.

The staff of the Train Station here in Slyudyanka were wonderful to work with. From purchasing my ticket to Irkutsk the day before my trip to 'holding-my-hand' on the day of my trip. They helped me by showing me a small map locating my train Coach number 1 / Wagon number 1 as being at the far end of the train and NOT next to the engines. This is critical because the stop in Slyudyanka is TWO MINUTES in duration. You absolutely MUST KNOW where your Coach / Wagon will be. I was the only passenger to board my coach number 1 so I did not have other passengers to follow as to its location. The station staff even offered me assistance with my one bag which I kindly refused with gratitude for the offer.

Interesting and picturesque
Aug 2018 • Solo
This is the main stopping off point to see Lake Baikal, either as a day trip from Irkutsk or by hopping off the Trans-Siberian. There are a few small shops on the platform, 5 minutes from the lake shore, and the centre of town is just over the footbridge.

Unique Station
Aug 2018 • Family
The Slyudyanka Train Station was at the end of our circumbaikal train tour. It is one of five remaining operable on the track to Listvyanka, the others being Kultuk, Maritui, Ulanovo and Baikal. This station is unique because it was built from marble in 1904. At the time it was the first railway station in Russia built from marble. The station was ordered constructed by the former transportation minister Mikhail Khilkov, whose bust is outside the station. The station underwent extensive renovation in 2005, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the completion of the railway.

The building is made of green and white marble, and we thought that the waiting room with chandelier was the highlight. We preferred the view of the station from Tonkonoga Street which runs behind it, as it seemed more aged than the view from the tracks. There are quite a few souvenir and F&B shops outside of the station. A monument of a class L steam locomotive, which was produced after WW2, may be found by walking on Rzhanova Street, which is a few minutes walk away from the station. You may have to cross the tracks to get to this section of town, so use the overhead bridge to be safe.

Quaint Railway Station at the south end of Lake Baikal
Sep 2016 • Couples
Quaint small railway station on the Trans Siberian at the southern most end of Lake Baikal. Station is famous as the start point for the Circumbaikal branch line around Lake Baikal to Port Baikal. The Circumbaikal line was originally part of the Trans Siberian railway, however part of this line (along the Angara river valley) was drowned after building the dam across the Angara river. The main railroad to Irkutsk now travels north away from the lake and ascends over Devil's Mountain climbing 1300ft in 29km with an average gradient of 1:72 (1.5%) and a maximum of 1:50 (2%) close to the Andrianovskaya summit.

Looks like a toy railway station
Jul 2016 • Family
Not only the material from which the station was built is unique, but also the architecture. It looks like no other railway station in Russia. Very cozy and friendly. This is what you would like to have on your model railway at home. And nobody will believe you it's existing somewhere.
