Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The property is well maintained. You can walk around by yourself and see the outside of the buildings and peek in but if you want more information, go when they give tours.

This is the birthplace of a former North Carolina governor around the time of the Civil War. A fine museum introduces the era and the players via targeted exhibits. Particularly interesting: the different mind-sets of the Northern and Southern citizens.
Once oriented, we explored the grounds, peaking into the various on-site structures. The gorgeous day made that doubly enjoyable.

The museum is amazing! Though centered around Governor Vance, the curators have managed to tell the story of the settlement of the region as well as Civil War history and that of the development of the political parties of this country. One of the best things was a chart called “Political Parties in Transition” that traced all the splits and schisms that resulted in new parties from the beginning of the republic to the present.
The explanations of Vance’s thinking helped me understand the mentality of the South at the time regarding slavery, union vs. secession and the various considerations of political leaders that led to the war. His life as told at the museum shed light on the thinking of the times.
Beautiful spot, interesting homestead and outbuildings. Includes family history and that of the slaves they owned.
Well done! If you like history don’t miss it!

This is a remarkable historic site! The exhibits at the entrance are clearly interpreted and do not raise Vance above who he was...an owner of people and white supremacist.
The out-buildings are carefully preserved. The staff is well informed and communicates the Vance story without unnecessary embellishment.
This site is well worth a visit!

A beautiful spot with preserved buildings of the early settlers to Western North Carolina. Also included is the history of the enslaved persons that lived and worked here. Informative displays in the visitor center and a knowledgeable staff. I very much enjoyed my visit.

We were doing some scenic driving when we saw the signs for the Vance Birthplace, not a native to NC, so we wanted to stop and get the history. Such a wonderful experience takes about an hour to explore if you love history! Has a nice covered shelter for a family picnic as well. We will bring our grandchildren on our return trip to NC.

You can get to this right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The drive is scenic and has nice countryside views. You can learn a lot about this part of history and it’s actually very interesting and enjoyable.

This is a nicely kept piece of history with a log cabin that is kept in good condition and the outbuildings. Such a wonderful slice of a historical nature.

They have two groups from college today. BREVARD COLLAGE. I was at the gift shop trying to buy a book and a postcard, maybe 5 minutes of their time, The employee didn't look at me, didn't ask me if I need something just ignored me.

We could not really review properly because they were closed even though the sign said they were open. Granted it was less than 30 minutes before their scheduled closing, but our visit was going to be fast.
