This is a Wilmington must for all ages. Rarely are museums set up to hold the attention of all ages but this gem gets the job done. What a joy, from the staff that greets you to the dinosaur fossil at he end. It tells the history of the Cape Fear Basin with interactive exhibits that you can actually touch.... More

The Cape Fear Museum provides a graphic presentation of the area's history and development. We found the exhibits to be relevant, educational, and well done. Depending upon how much time you have available, you could spend as much as two to three hours viewing the exhibits; unfortunately, our time was limited and we only spent a little more than an... In the midst of construction, this museum managed to pull off a diverse group of displays. Clearly produced with a school-aged audience, the subjects also addressed an older visitors interest. Who knew that Wilmington held such a command of colonial history?

Great alternative if your kids are too old for the Children's Museum in Wilmington (which is great too). Interesting and well presented exhibits, plus some hands on stuff for the kids, especially about the history of the area. Just the right size to get through in 1-2 hours. Every time we're in Wilmington, the kids want to come back. Great... More

This museum is geared for older kids in my opinion. There is so much real history and items of interest. Our little ones just were too young but the adults loved it !

This was our second time there (exhibits change regularly) and I enjoyed it so much I decided it was time to review it. This museum is the oldest history museum in NC. In 1898 it started out as a one room museum in the Wilmington Light Infantry's building. In the 1920s it was in two rooms of the county courthouse.... More

This museum is housed in an old historic Armory Building. Pieces of local history are presented in a fascinating way for all ages.

this is great for the history buff and alot for the kids to enjoy too. Upstairs is a "ship" that you can pretend to "work" in teaches kids what kinds of jobs are on board. 2 levels of war history along with local history and some science. we sat and listened to the story of fort fisher while looking at...
