The buildings were awesome, walked down some brick streets. Trolley tours are very interesting but so are walking tours. Lots of cafe's on the river. You can see the battleship across the river. A visit to the City Market is a must. The Cotton Exchange building is filled with unique shops and eateries. Parking is a little difficult to find... More

I liked that most everything you may need to see here can either be reached by walking or taking a trolley. They even have cruises on the Cape Fear River for you to enjoy on beautiful days! I love the Spanish moss and felt at times that I was in Savannah, GA strolling in the old south.

Be sure to walk the boardwalk at sunset. It's gorgeous. Lively downtown. Full of restaurants, street performers, etc.

Beautiful massive old homes line the main streets of downtown and the spanish moss drips heavily from the trees. Lots of history to explore in the historic area of downtown Wilmington. Haunted houses and pubs, pirate stories, boutiques, beautiful architecture are to be found everywhere. The visitor center on the riverwalk will give information by walking tour, horse-drawn carriage or... More

To get a feel for the old Wilmington all you need to do is pick a street from Market to Church and work your way up and down the streets. There are both old historical homes with super grand presentation and smaller homes that have been renovated with great care. The streets are lined with tall oaks draped with Spanish... More

You can walk the area very easily. I started down by the Cape Fear river and walked as far as the cotton exchange, which now houses many art&scratch style shops. It is a bit like a warren with many surprises around every corner. The historic district is well posted with notices on the street explaining everything. A lot of it... More

There were clearly historic building and look to the area, but I was not very impress. There were areas that were run down, so places looked abandoned or unlikeable although they were occupied. Also there was a major construction area going into the area. I was not impressed.

My girlfriend & i went on the horse drawn tour through the historical district & it was very informative. Romantic as well as a change from the ordinary truck ride through town. Definitely recommend

Tour Historic Downtown Wilmington and be treated to a host of diverse architecture. Redolent with history dating back to 1739, the cobbled streets lead to many fascinating homes, shops and restaurants. The River Walk offers a scenic interlude. No wonder it's the wedding capital of North Carolina!
