Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A wonderful wide selection of art covering different styles and formats. A fun find in Fargo. Covers several floors through adjacent buildings, perfect for exploring and finding surprising art. Excellent paintings, sculpture and mixed formats. Appears to be mostly a local artists emphasis and it was inspiring to see so much good art being done in the area.

A gem in a beautifully recovered space, thought provoking visual art by regional artists. Based in the geography and culture of the region. Was the primary reason for our trip and definitely worth it.

This is a nice museum for Fargo since there isn’t a lot of options. They have three floors but only two sections or small galleries were open. It only takes less than an hour to see what was open. The art pieces were nicely displayed and interesting.

This is a free art museum. It was a nice visit for us visiting Fargo to see some artwork. It had some contemporary artwork in display but certainly not giving us a Wow feel. The building design is beautiful with beautiful windows. There is an art workshop room in the second floor. Did not go to the third floor as it was not available. Hopefully it will show more other types of artwork in the future.

This is a small but nice art museum that does not charge admission. They do have a gift shop so you can support them. Unfortunately one exhibit was moved out because the temperature could not be controlled as needed for the materials of the work, but we had enough to see while we were there. I would return.

The museum has free parking. Admission if free. There are donation boxes available if you are so inclined. The art is mostly modern. I was expecting it to house Native American art of which there was little. There is a gift shop and a restaurant. The restaurant was closed during my visit due to COVID-19 concerns.

In searchof something to see in Fargo, I chose this (not a lot of selection, really). Positive - beautifully repourposed building and props for that. Also, free. Don't expect 'plains art' though - at least not in the traditional sense. It's all contemporary and not quite as thought provoking as it would like to believe. Kudos for bringing art to the community but this is not a write home experience. If you are in town looking for something to do (or if you must visit something in Fargo to count ND as a 'state' on this list....), this is worth a stop (did I mention it's free?), otherwise fairly unexceptional - it would be a secondary or perhaps tertiary stop in say, the Twin Cities.

I stopped in Fargo for a long afternoon a few weeks ago, and I decided to check the museum out. I didn't know what to expect, and I was pretty impressed with what they offer. For starters, it's free, and that's tough to beat. Secondly, I thought it was very educational and refreshing to see a strong focus on Native American history, folklore, and modern artists. Maybe it's the regions of the US I've traveled through most often, but you just don't see that on the east coast. I loved the exhibit on the Lakota Emergence and the in-depth story provided. I'm usually not a fan of modern art, but even a large portion of it drew me in. Finally, I was impressed by the unique approach to birdhouses inspired by modern architects from the second building. I loved it, and I think it's worth your time if you're there.

I really don't want to write this review, but I find it necessary. I will try to be kind. The building really cool, but there really isn't an art collection as you would expect in an art museum. I believe all, but one or two paintings, are from the 20's and 21's centuries. They own a Warhol. I was hoping for some cultural art from the area: quilts, pottery, etc... They didn't have that. They did have a gallery of bird houses that the local college students designed. I left really disappointed. It was a good thing that the museum is free.

Melissa, we are sorry to hear that the Museum did not meet your expectations. The Museum is not an encyclopedic one. Our strengths are in modern, contemporary, regional, and Native American art. Your review actually made use tweak our description on our TripAdvisor site to make that clear :)
