If you are at all familiar or have heard of the flood of 1997 that devastated this area...when you see this monument and the level that the water reached when compared to the bridge next to it..it will surely leave you awestruck.

Near the town square downtown; free parking available nearby. Worth a stop if you are downtown to really appreciate the water levels of the floods. Can see the new flood walls and embankments. There is a nice biking/jogging path in the greenway along the river...More

It's amazing how deep the water got during the flood of '97. Park downtown and walk to the monument or there is a bike trail that goes near it also. The kids enjoyed looking for the painted rocks with Grand Forks Rocks (check on FB).

The flood level markings are amazing. Can't imaging the water being that high. Stand there are look around 360.

The flood memorial monument is sobering reminder of the largest flood Grand Forks. It also marks the height of the river from other years to compare. Not being from Grand Forks it was very interesting to see really how high the water had been.

This oblesk along the Red River is a sobering reminder of the power of water. Amazing that the river could rise so much. The monument is a part of a popular green space.

They've done an amazing job of creating a green space and protecting for the future. This little obelisk paints a stark reminder of the devastation back in '97.

It was a horrible ordeal for all the residents of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks in the spring of 1997. Several buildings caught fire with water up to second stories on some. Evacuations on both sides of the river. My family in East Grand...More
