The Sheyenne National Grasslands has plenty of wide open spaces. It is a great area to just hike or go horseback riding.

I came here in Winter expecting to see tall grass prairie. I did see that....but it wasn't the setting advertised. Its not one big expanse of uninterrupted tall grass prairie - its an area of RICH soil farmland with a small section in the middle...More

The North Country Trail winds through tallgrass prairies, wet prairies, oak savannahs, and aspen parklands. There is enough relief in the landscape--dunes, mostly stabilized by forage growth--to stir interest and create vistas, but the trails are not strenuous.
