This funky shrine right beside the Mabou River Inn is worth a peek. There are so many vigil candles burning it's probably not a great idea to go inside to breathe. But worth having a look. At night a red cross lights up on the...More

While traveling via motorcycle on the Cape Breton Trail we stayed at the Inn next door for 2 nights. I walked over to the church and was intrigued that the candles lit burn through the night. Very small chapel was interesting and unique.

Once we arrived at this shrine, we saw a model of the church. Entering the real church, it was truly a shrine about Jesus being crucified and his mother weeping. There were many lighted candles. It had also a second floor, where we could ring...More

Beautiful little shrine. This was next door to the mabou river inn and was a nice little surprise. It is free to enter and the are prayer candles to light for a donation.

A very very quaint and rustic church overflowing with soulful energy. It's almost like visiting a time capsule.... Don't miss it when you visit Cape Breton.

This was my first visit and it was after dark. The red lit cross on roof was part of it's charm. Inside was very quaint with candle lights and chant music. Ringing the bell in tower was a highlight

We visited the Mother of Sorrows Pioneer Shrine in July. You are enveloped in a peaceful tranquil setting to reflect and pray. It even has a switch to turn on the music and add to the beauty.
