This was one of our favourite visits on our vacation. The village is set out in such a fashion that you are really talking a walk through time which helped us to understand the settlement of the Scottish immigrants over 250 years. It's all very well done and the onsite animators are so good that at times, I forgot they... More

Highland village is right next to the Iona heights where we stayed. Historic replica village with houses school, store, blacksmith. Had highland cattle, highland sheep, some chickens and a pig. Staff is dressed in period clothing. It is perched high on the hill with a great view of the lake.

Had a cruise which stopped in Sydney so rented a car and came here. It's beautiful and informative. I love the way the people stay in character and give you a good idea of the past.

This is a fantastic place to visit to learn about the history of Cape Breton. The first person animators do a great job of telling "their" story. We have visited a few places like this throughout Nova Scotia, but I think this was the best. The walk through history was very well done. Plus you have some of the best... More

Learned a lot about Gaelic Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia. The people dressed in period costume were very knowledgeable. You need at least two hours to see it all.

If you are in the Iona area, or visiting nearby, meander down the highway and take a walk through time from 1700s Scotland to early 1900s Nova Scotia. Volunteers are dressed in period clothing and have taken on the character of an early settler, possibly even a relative! Many are are actually working in period homes and businesses, and love... Thank you for taking the time to write. While the Highland Village does benefit greatly from volunteer assistance, the animators you mention are employees of the Village. We are pleased to be employing such dedicated & talented staff in rural Nova Scotia. More

I love this kind of stuff so I was not disappointed! It had culture, it was interactive, and the scenery is beautiful. I enjoyed the blacksmith and general store the best! But the church is beautiful!

Had a wonderful morning at the interactive Highland Village Museum. Friendly staff took us through 200 years of Scottish heritage. They were happy to answer our questions and share what life was like through the years, in character of course. We even heard about some personal family from the school teacher and watched James the blacksmith create a horseshoe. Definitely... More

This is a great stop, it follows Scottish immigration from Scotland through all the years in Cape Breton, starting in the black house of Scotland, the log house here, and then through the years. there are wonderful people at all the buildings, acting the part of people through the years,, and answer all the questions. We really enjoyed our visit.
