350 million years old this volcano is 1 of 7 in the world & it's right in our back yard. Plan to spend at least 3 hours here. You get a mini introduction of what to look for. You will be overwhelmed when you enter the site. Pick an area & look for geodes!! You bring back your rocks to... More

Stopped by here on a recent visit to Gaspe because my son is crazy about geodes. We dug for about 1.5 to 2 hours and had more than enough geodes in our bucket. We decided to get two of them cut there (to have them cut is an extra charge of 5-12 dollars depending on the size of the geode)... More

We came here for our kids (age 5, 7 & 10) but my husband and I had a blast! Looking for geodes is surprisingly addictive. Pack a lunch and bring water bottles (you can refill them with cool spring water at the wash station or registration building) - it's HOT up there on a sunny day and you really will... More

Have you ever dreamed of digging in a mine? Have you ever whistled "Heigh-Ho"? Do you love the dwarves in LOTR? Do you have a bunch of kids you need to tire out? If you answered yes to any of these questions, take the Detour to Mont Lyall. It's a little off the beaten track but still easily accessible by... More

When planning our trip, this activity sounded neat, so we decided to throw it in even though it added several hours of travel. On the day planned, the weather was substandard. It was cool with occasional showers. Cool we knew would be fine for digging rocks, but we weren't interested in rain. We decided to go nonetheless. The place is... More

We decided to travel from Montreal to Mont Lyall over the weekend Long drive (10 hrs), but well worth it. We got to the mine at opening time (9 am). We arrived at the mine reception area after having driven approx. .5 km on a dirt road. We decided to take one bucket to collect our geodes. We headed out... More

Great activity for the kids. Make sure you have ground clearance in your vehicle as it is a rugged road to get in.

Travelling with two other women we decided to stay in the gift shop and get our agates the easy way. We decided that it was definitely a place our husbands and sons would love to visit. Children would also find it quite fascinating. If you want, you can go to the open pit mine and pick and hammer out your... More

We decided to visit the geode mine on the way back from Gaspe. If you take the gravel road from Murdochville it's much shorter, but only do it if you're comfortable on gravel roads. Directions are given, but putting it into my gps never worked. It was some really "interesting" navigating to find it. For all the new school people... More
