We probably didn't see the island and the views at their best, muddy waters due to rainy season in lake and slightly overcast but the island itself was dirty. Rubbish everywhere, an over proliferation of tourist shops all selling the same stuff and no information...More

Let me say first, I don't like to give bad reviews. But this long (40 minute) boat ride to the isla was not spectacular in any way. Once there, the vendors had very little diversity of products and we only stayed a few minutes to...More

So glad the boat trip was cheap because the Isla itself is very disappointing. It looks rundown, dirty and drab. There are many vendors selling food, but flies were swarming all over. We spent about ten minutes walking around and headed back to the dock...More

No trip to Pátzcuaro is complete without Janitzio. But recently the island has been taken over by people selling cheap crafts. Walk up to the Morelos monument and wnyoj the views.

Decided to do this trip out to the island while visiting Patzcuaro. We took a taxi from Centro out to the launch area around 11 am, and took one of the many boats out to The Island of Janitzio. The lake itself is shallow and...More

Take a water taxi on a misty morning across the water hyacinth filled lake and this island appears like a ghost. The entire island is a series of stairs lined with wonderful little shops, restaurants and stalls. It is stepping back in time since nothing...More

This is the largest and most visited of the islands. There are many shops and restaurants. The boat ride is fun, as there usually are entertainers on board and you get close to the fishermen.
