The center of town has the beautiful colonial architecture of Michoacán. The main plaza is surrounded by beautiful buildings of thick adobe walls, wooden columns, red tiled roofs. There is a Kiosk with a copper roof. It is fascinating to see the way the copper is worked. The museum is very interesting and one can visit different workshops in town.... More

The skill demonstrated by these craftsmen is totally impressive. They make things out of a lump of copper that just blow your mind. Days and days of hard work. If you are interested in Mexican crafts don't miss this town.

If you like copper, this is heaven. Explore many of the stores, because in the back of several there are craftsmen working with the copper, making items while you watch.

The best place to visit is the Copper museum where copper-smiths demonstrate their skills. Like so many tourist towns, every shop sells copper-ware (apart from the butcher's!).

Visited Santa Clara during this year's copper festival (speciality of the town) and was impressed by the enthusiasm of all the locals who are more than keen to show their way of working the copper and what they manage to produce by hand! There's a display of the previous years' winning objects as well as the current competition. Plus there... More

It was a beautiful drive through the countryside from Patzcuaro to the town center where parking was easy, the folks friendly and LOTS and LOTS of amazing copper artisans. Don't miss the copper museum and displays.

We visited here while driving between Morelia and Patzcuaro. It was easy to find and easily accessible on a good paved road. We were hungry when we arrived so we had an excellent three course comida corrida at the hotel on the main square. Sitting outside enjoying the view we all had an excellent Sopa Tarasca, a good crisp green... More

Museum should not be missed. Many of the shops off detailed demonstrations. If offered, accept a demo. The variety of product in the town is impressive.

Hammered copper artworks to enrich the soul made by hand by some of the most amazing metalsmiths and artisans in the country. Or more utilitarian objects as well ... but shipping these pieces costs more than the works themselves.
