We took the Metro from our hotel to Terminal Norte to take a bus to see the pyramids. The first stop the bus from Mexico City makes is at this location. If you stay on the bus I am sure you would end up at the north end of the ruins. We are very glad we started at the south end. When we first got here we were able to sit inside a restaurant and eat while looking across at this pyramid. I had some of the best soup I've even eaten at this restaurant.

After eating, we went and walked around the Serpent's temple. It was very different from what I remembered when I visited in the 1970s. This temple is a must see, as it has lots of serpents heads sticking out of it and it is just more ornate than other sites at this location. After seeing this temple we headed north on the Avenue de los Muertos and we ended up going up and down steps. It did take a little while to get from this location to the Pyramid of the Sun, but we finally made it. We passed the museum and did not go into it. We thought we would have time to go back to it, but so much more stuff has been excavated since we were there in the 1970s, that we did not have time to go back and see the museum. We of course climbed to the top of the Sun pyramid and walked around all the other areas that were not excavated years ago, so we stayed very busy the entire day. At this point, I think I will have to say if you really want to enjoy this wonderful, must see set of ruins and pyramids, you should plan to walk it all and see it all in a day and a half, or perhaps go ahead and take two days to see it and the museum. At least they do have that very good restaurant at the south end.

This place is one of those magical, mystical places on this planet. When walking through you can really feel the age of the site. The structures are just incredible and the site really is very large with many, many things to see. Because it's best to take it slow, you really need to plan for an entire day at a minimum. The site closes at 5 p.m.

If you are visiting Mexico city and you have time, definitely spend a day on this visit. Go early so you dont find many people, and the first thing I recommend you to do is to climb the pyramid of the Sun because it is the most visited and then the line become very long. It is an indescribable experience and the feeling of peace and energy is breathtaking. Beware of the guides (those who are at the entrance), they will try to charge you a lot for the tour, once inside there are other guides who do it for a tip and the souvenir sellers themselves can explain any doubt you have. when you finish your tour you can go and eat a great place called "La Gruta".

Teotihucan was a must see in our list and we were not disappointed it was incredible! Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, bring hats and sunglasses and a camera to take plenty of photos. That day we walked 22,000 steps according our phone and we were tired but it was totally worth it. I advice if you feel adventures to do this trip yourself use the metro line 5 (yellow) to get to Autobuses del Norte and take the Teotihucan buses ($100 pesos round trip starts at 7am until 9pm every 20 minutes), the park fee was $70 pesos. And take all the time to soak it all in and the tour are good also i heard.
June/ July is rainy season and at about 4pm after we got down from the pyramid of the sun (about 550 steps up and down) and it rained hard. There are vendors there selling water, all sorts of pottery and jewelry and they are persistent and will follow you around, just stick to your decision. And i almost forgot that some of this pottery are jaguar statues that make noises like a jaguar.

Certainly be a must do if visiting Mexico City. Try and choose a weekday as its far less crowded. We ubered from our hotel to the central bus station and at gate #8 bought tickets for $100mx each which includes return tickets. Takes around an hour to get there and you are dropped at gate 2. Return bus picks you up at same spot. We took 8am bus out and used our return tickets on the 12.30 bus. Busses for Mexico City every 20 mins so you are never left waiting long. Entry to the site was $70mx each. Get there before 10am and climb the Temple of the Sun first before the heat gets too much and the tour busses arrive. Toilets are onsite in 2 areas and are spotless. My must carries for your visit, bottled water, hat, sunscreen, toilet paper or handywipes, sensible sneakers or treking sandles...not flipflops or jandles, your camera and sunglasses! Of note every part of this site apart from climbing the pyramids was accessable by wheelchair. If you are walking fit you can manage this site. Souviner sellers everywhere but are not agressive. Wild dogs also roaming but did not appear to be an issue. This historic site is well worth your time.

We come from Peru, where we have magnificent ruins, Teotihuacan holds its own indeed. it is a breathtaking place. Spend 3-4 hours there. it will a be a highlight of your trip.

Guides: up to you really, we read up a lot about the ruins in Wikipedia :)

Souvenirs: we just got the whistle (?) that gives a jaguar growl. paid 220 Mexican dollars ($11 USD)

Recommendations:

Need a hat, water, and sun block.

The earlier you can get in, the better. Plan to be at the pyramids by 9:15 before the heat of the day.

Head straight to the Pyramid of the Sun before the buses arrive. The climb is demanding but you can do it in stages. Then go to the pyramid of the Moon. it is still a demanding climb but not as manny steps as the pyramid of the Sun. When you are done, just mosey your way back through the smaller pyramids.

Before you leave make sure to see the Pyramid of the feathered serpent. it is the group of pyramids close to the entrance. it is a great area.

To get there, we took an Uber from la Condesa to the Terminal de autobuses del norte. Ask the driver to let you in gate #8. Go in, and you will see the ticket sales booth for the pyramids. 50 Mexican dollars each way per person. (for the two of us was 200 mexican dollars total like $10 USD) then go the gate they indicate. (gate 7 for us) as the time of departure approaches feel free to ask which of the buses go the pyramids. The bus will leave you at the gate #2. People will approach you to offer you taxi rides to other gates closer to the pyramid of the moon. (we declined) When you are done, the bus will pick you up at the same spot. There is a covered area where the guards/police sit. you can sit there in the shade while you wait for the bus. The bus stops 15 meters in front of the sitting area. The bus will take you back to the station. From there we took a taxi to the basilica of Guadalupe (80 Mexican dollars)

We toured the location with a private tour guide (much recommended). It is definitely much larger than what it seems in pictures or video. You will want to make sure that you have water, sun screen and light clothing. I highly recommend that you visit this spectacular ancient archeological site! May I suggest that you go there when they open to avoid traffic, lines and the heat.

If you visit Teotihuacan you might not realize that there is the serpent pyramid at the far end of the site. Most people enter the site in front of the pyramid of the sun, then make their way to the moon pyramid on the left-hand side. But if you head at the right of the pyramid of the sun (several hundred meters) you will find the smaller, but more intricate pyramid of the plumed serpent. It is well worth the walk. The carvings are well preserved and the area is less busy than the moon/sun pyramids.

What a lovely experience this small city is or was shall I say. It's best to visit in the morning where it's less crowded otherwise this can be a very crowded sight seeing location. It's very inexpensive from Mexico City to take the local bus(very comfortable). Definitely worth the visit!

About an hour from Mexico City center, go ealry before traffic and crowds (opens 8am, we arrived at 9am and had the place to ourselves for the first 30 mins.) Large complex extends for over a kilometer. Climbed to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun, great view. Enter through gate 5 (best central location).

So much history to see. Wear sensible clothing. Very little shade and lots of walking. We took an uber from Mexico City. It was under $30USD on the way there and less than $20.00 to return to the city. Well worth the quite air conditioned drive. It is a must see on your trip to Mexico.
