As a scratch golfer I have played courses all around the world. The hardest thing to do in golf for a greenskeeper is to have nice greens in a humid climate next to the ocean. I was disappointed at the quality of the greens for what the fee was. I would not recommend paying the money to play the course

When you play a few resort courses in Mexico and the Caribbean, you begin to lower your expectations. The courses are usually nice, but not typically all that memorable. Well, prepare yourself for a treat. The service level and condition of the course are shockingly great (you kind of expect that level of service, but not the great course conditions).
You have at least 6 holes with panoramic ocean views, and one of the most fun par 3 holes to the only real island great in the world. This course gets a solid A.

Played the Pacifico course. First, the service is amazing, from the shuttle ride from the hotel to the pro shop and on course personnel, the staff takes care of all your wants and needs. The course is nice...a bit too much sand on the greens that makes them slow, but otherwise in excellent condition. Every three or four holes, a cart comes around to give you cold towels, refresh the ice in the cooler, and give you more bottles of water...so even though it is a bit warm, the round was comfortable. A bit expensive, but it's a resort course and that is what you should expect to pay.

Played Pacifico yesterday. If you can swallow paying $300 for a round of golf, you'll get an outstanding experience. Whatever you are looking for they offered - great design, terrific course conditions, outstanding practice area, helpful friendly staff and some world class holes that are truly amazing. And some extra touches too - like a delicious smoothie at the turn and various staff/attendants who refuse to accept gratuities unless you really force it on them. We weren't rushed and felt like VIPs the entire time we were there. I understand why Pacifico is rated at the top of courses in Mexico. My suggestion - if you are a newbie to golf or watching your budget, don't play here. But if you want to enjoy a world class golf experience and can pay the price that commands, Pacifico is for you.

We decided to go to this hotel for our honeymoon and I might say, we could not have chosen better! Great food, excellent service, nice rooms, a beautiful swimming pool. Veeeery romantic. Negative thing: Puerto Vallarta is 45 min drive and he's not that spectacular either. Oud holiday was the hotel, let's say. Good for honeymooners and people with children (children have their own buffet!! ). Excellent spa!

I am about a 10-12 handicap player and expected the course to be harder than it was based on the reviews I had read but I was pleasantly surprised by the fairness of the holes. The fairways were generally in good shape and some of the views were magnificent, but the greens were not consistent in terms of speed or condition and while I hit a great t-shot on the island hole I was unable to play out the hole because of the tide.

Amazing amazing amazing!!! Only bummer is I didn’t get to play the full course. The time we went was super slow. Almost nobody out in this course, a true golfers dream. Views slopes secenery the whole 9/18. Our assistant that catered to us was the coolest! I’m writing this review late and sadly forgot his name. Although there was a couple guys that helped me out, let me take my time and hit a few at the range before going to the tale of the whale (4th hole I think). If you don’t have time or if your with wife and baby like my self then they will let you play this one hole only. Which is well worth it and an absolute must! This place was nice enough to let me bring my wife and 9 month old baby. The hole is surrounded by water and your able to drive to it when the tide is low. Gave us a tour of a few holes. Service was excellent and can’t wait to go again and play both courses!!!

There are two courses here -- Pacifico and the newer Bahia. Pacifico is a fairly standard resort course. Wide fairways, well maintained. Lots of sand. But it is fairly straightforward and multiple tee boxes so appropriate for any skill level. Bahia is fare more challenging. The more you play it the more it grows on you. It really is more of a shot-maker's course, requiring you to think your way through the round. An excellent test of golf.

The Pacifico & Bahia courses, although expensive to play, provide some of the most beautiful views and challenging shots around. The #-3 "Tail of the Whale" hole on the Pacifico course is the only Natural Island Green in the world and offers a very challenging approach, with the winds, to the green. The Bahia course is one of the most challenging courses I've ever played, with ungulated fairways & greens that result in many 3-putts. The water views are spectacular and the staff treats you like royalty.

Other than staying at Four Seasons or St Regis, is there any way of playing at the Pacifico course? I heard something about a day pass but I am not sure what that is about.
Written 12 September 2023
Called Four Seasons, they are requiring us to purchase a day use pass for $420 before the round of golf for two people at ~$200 or $250. So all in this is about $900 just to get on the course? Is this what other people are paying or how are people getting on the course?
Written 26 June 2017
You have to stay at FS or ST Regis to play course. I think you can. It a membership if you own a home in the area.

i will be staying at the W hotel. Will I be able to play Pacifico course?
Written 31 August 2016
Not unless you have a member who is willing to sponsor you. It's a private club for members and guests at the four seasons and st Regis.

Hello - We will be playing the Pacifico course in early June. What are your exact make/model of your rental clubs... including irons and driver?
Thanks,
Tony

They were Taylor Mades. I can't remember exact model but were larger heads and the easy to hit style. They gave me regular shafts probably should of asked for stiffer shafts because of swing speed

We will be staying at the grande palladium Vallarta resort. Just curious as to which golf courses are nearby
Written 2 August 2015
Hi, we stayed at the Iberostar which had the course right on site, hotel guest rate was roughly $35.00, then club rentals started at $25.00. Nice course with a few holes right among the Ocean. Worth the time and $$ to play.

We're headed to punta mita next week, and my husband is dying to play the pacifico and bahia courses but heard you can only play them if you are staying at the St. Regis or Four Seasons... has anyone else encountered this? If so, is there a way around it?
Written 4 June 2015
Hola Erin,
The semi-private Punta Mita Golf Club is open only to Punta Mita property owners and their guests, and guests of Four Seasons and St. Regis Resorts. Both hotels offer a day pass that will give him access. We look forward to welcoming you!
